I've been looking at the S&K drop-in mounts for milsurps. I've pretty much decided to scope either my Swedish Mauser or my Swiss Karabiner K31, and have a few questions. It will just be for range use, and some plinking. I won't be hunting, unless someone says "Hey Tornado, come help me with my hog problem.":D

***Disclaimer -- No rifle will be permanently altered*** That said:

Has anybody scoped either of these rifles with the S&K mounts?

What power EER scopes have you used? Straight 2X or 2-7?

Which rifle would you recommend rigging up?

Any and all help will be appreciated. It's just a tough call.
Thanks,
RT

No, but I have one of these:
K31 scout mount
Machined from a solid block of aircraft aluminum. No alterations to the rifle necessary, very solid mount, zero never shifts, keeps port clear to allow use of stripper clips.

I tried the S&K scout mount for the K-31 with a Burris pistol scope. Bad call. Not enough eye relief for that scope. Maybe the Leupold IER type scopes would work, but don't try a pistol scope in this application. That's all I can offer.

I don't know about the S&K mount, but with the scout mount I posted a link to above, a pistol scope is perfect as long as the scope's eye relief is correct (different pistol scopes have different eye relief). The Leupold Scout scope also works perfectly with this mount on a K31.

I have a clamp on mount for one of my K-31s. It works really nice. I've never been much of a fan of scout type mounts, maybe jsut because it would require me to buy another scope.

I have a "Darrels" scout scope mount on my K-31, and really like it. Although the TAPCO mount looks a little better to me. I use a 2.5X scope.

Go with the St.Marie's clamp on mount. And if you have a C&R license it's discounted very heavily at Brownells. The Burris Fullfield II 3-9-40 works great on this gun and mount.
