A Little Gun History Lesson

In 1911, Turkey established gun control. From 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million Armenians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

---------------------------
In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control. From 1929 to 1953, about 20 million dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

----------------------------
China established gun control in 1935. >From 1948 to 1952, 20 million political dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

------------------------------
Germany established gun control in 1938 and from 1939 to 1945, a total of 13 million Jews and others who were unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated

------------------------------
Cambodia established gun control in 1956. From 1975 to 1977, one million 'educated' people, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

------------------------------
Guatemala established gun control in 1964. From 1964 to 1981, 100,000 Mayan Indians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

------------------------------
Uganda established gun control in 1970. >From 1971 to 1979, 300,000 Christians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

-----------------------------
Defenseless people rounded up and exterminated in the 20th Century because of gun control: 56 million.

------------------------------
It has now been 12 months since gun owners in Australia were forced by new law to surrender 640,381 personal firearms to be destroyed by their own government, a program costing Australia taxpayers more than $500 million dollars. The first year results are now in:

Australia-wide, homicides are up 3.2 percent

Australia-wide, assaults are up 8.6 percent

Australia-wide, armed robberies are up 44 percent (yes, 44 percent)!

In the state of Victoria alone, homicides with firearms are now up 300 percent. Note that while the law-abiding citizens turned them in, the criminals did not, and criminals still possess their guns!

It will never happen here? I bet the Aussies said that too!

While figures over the previous 25 years showed a steady decrease in armed robbery with firearms, this has changed drastically upward in the past 12 months, since criminals now are guaranteed that their prey is unarmed.

There has also been a dramatic increase in break-ins and assaults of the ELDERLY. Australian politicians are at a loss to explain how public safety has decreased, after such monumental effort and expense was expended in successfully ridding Australian society of guns. The Australian experience and the other historical facts above prove it.

You won't see this data on the US evening news, or hear politicians disseminating this information.
Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws adversely affect only the law-abiding citizens.

Take note my fellow Americans, before it's too late!
The next time someone talks in favor of gun control, please remind him of this history lesson.
With Guns............We Are 'Citizens'.
Without Them........We Are 'Subjects'..

During W.W.II the Japanese decided not to invade America because they knew most Americans were ARMED !

Note: Admiral Yamamoto who crafted the attack on Pearl Harbor had attended Harvard U 1919-1921 & was Naval Attaché to the U. S. 1925-28. Most of our Navy was destroyed at Pearl Harbor & our Army had been deprived of funding & was ill prepared to defend the country.

It was reported that when asked why Japan did not follow up the Pearl Harbor attack with an invasion of the U. S. Mainland, his reply was that he had lived in the U. S. & knew that almost all households had guns.

I may get flamed for this, but whatever. Here in Iraq families are allowed 1 rifle per household, and 1 magazine for said rifle (it's usually an AK type) by law. I am not saying that it's a bad thing in such a region, but the fact is the bad guys that are trying to harm us obviously don't follow the laws. I have helped dig up some of the "banned" munitions (120 and 130mm artillery rounds).

My brother got back from Iraq at the end of 08. He supports the 1 rifle per household. He noted that when they were disarmed, no one could really keep the people safe until they were able to defend themselves. Bad guys also threaten the locals and use them to kidnap or send messages also.

Either way, that can't happen here. It would be all or nothing as that would easily be recognizable as an infringement on the 2A.

comparing Iraq to a first world country with respect to gun control is pretty off base. You have been to Iraq, correct? Me too. Tell us what is it like from your perspective. Here I'll help you, it's like going back in time 60 years or so. In addition, their way of doing things, due to their culture, is a lot different from Anglo-Saxon culture. I only include Anglo-Saxon because even in eastern Europe, they are a bit behind the times. Talk to folks who immigrated from the Middle East to the US or western Europe and they will tell you it's like going on a time travel into the future.

by next problem with the OP's "facts" is that some of that exterminations was fueled by us, yeah apple pie and lemonade Americans, who supported some of these dictatorships, and also left our allies hanging in the wind (e.g. Cambodia when the KR swept into power). So really, you can say these massacres were the result of the US, so you are really criticizing the US.

The "copy and past" job in the OP is older than the internet. I would also like to know where/whom it originally came from.

I wouldn't mind seeing credible sources concerning the establishment of gun control in all of those nations at the times stated.

During W.W.II the Japanese decided not to invade America because they knew most Americans were ARMED !

Source please. Japan never had the ability or will to invade the US mainland at all. All of their army was in China, Manchuria, Southeast Asia, South Pacific or guarding the home isles.

First they would have to see about building an entire army out of thin air then see about getting it all the way over to California before worrying about its armed residents.

It was reported that when asked why Japan did not follow up the Pearl Harbor attack with an invasion of the U. S. Mainland, his reply was that he had lived in the U. S. & knew that almost all households had guns.

Reported by whom? Source please.

Is this all about protecting ourselves from the bad guys? I don't believe so, I see it as protecting ourselves against the Obama overthrow of our constitutional rights. Obama is attempting to label every gun owner as a "Criminal" that is "Armed and dangerous"

I believe this is an old email that makes the rounds. It was cut and pasted here, thats why there are and will not be sources. The facts stand for them selfs, however the information is several years old.

If this list were footnoted it would be 100 times more useful.

You can generally find sources for each factoid if you search enough.

I prefer my data to be verified and footnoted which is why I recommend everyone download a copy of this http://www.gunfacts.info/

(BTW some of the facts listed in the original post can be found in there).

Everybody sure jumped on the bashing bandwagon here. I think the facts at the top of the OP are all pretty well established facts. Yes, footnotes would be good for making a formal argument.

The Australian stats need references as well.

But on the whole, the OP has got the thing right. He is right about Yamamoto as well. He was against Pearl Harbor because he knew that, America was not the soft, movie-going, sun-bathing, sports car driving "party boys" they appeared to be. He knew that because he lived here for 4 years. He was also well aware of our natural resources which, except for oil even then, we had everthing in abundance...especially coal and food.

So the whole thing rings very true to me! Get some sources cited and you'd have an pretty decent foundation for a formal, rational, agrument against gun control.

The quote as often cited is:
"You cannot invade the mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass."- Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto
(this is the same guy that said upon hearing of the Japanese success at Pearl Harbor; "I fear all we have done is awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve.")

Although you're not going to find any official Japanese source for it (which is why I stick to the stuff in Gunfacts)

one thing I am curious about, is did Stalin have trouble disarming the former Partisans who had aquired hardware?

I have received this chain-email several times. As grassroots propoganda, maybe... as an effective pro-gun arguement... send it to the trash!

As defenders of the 2nd ammendment, we know that empirical data/statistics are on our side. Please do not succumb to the anti-gunner's tactics of using propoganda to replace facts and statistics.

We are a smart, informed, educated, passionate community. Don't let the anti's try to to dumb us down!

If we are going to fight the anti's... as we should... let's be smart and informed.

Spitting sentences without sources, only leaves us up for ridicule.
