I Quit Cleaning My CZ

The only weapon I have that gives me fits is my 10/22 - and it's done that since the first day I took it shooting. I've got the good mags for it now, and have determined exactly which ammo it will shoot/feed reliably. Even with all that I still start having issues after about 500 rds - I've had bad luck with ruger autoloader pistols too, maybe it's time to start looking at other brands of cheap .22lr plinkers...

I tried the same experiment with my Glock 23C once, after reading so much about Glock's reliability. I fired over 2,000 rounds of mostly WWB, with absolutely no problems. Pull trigger, bang, then repeat as desired. Then I got bored one night and cleaned it, even though it didn't require it yet. Wish I never would have sold that one...

I routinely shoot 7-800+ rounds of Federal and CCI mini-mags through my Sig Mosquito .22 without cleaning, just re-oiling...

I appreciate the replies. Sounds like 1000 rounds through my CZ-97 will be no big deal.

Just wanted to point out I intent to take care of the CZ while I shoot it. I will give it the loving care and cleaning it deserves after I am confident it will go 1K without incident.

After all, these are "combat" pistols.

To each there own...but I keep all my guns extra clean. I have gone so far as to clean a gun that has been cleaned and not fired. I like to feel up my guns from time to time and a little remi oil makes it that more fun. Sorry if that sounded dirty.

The gun -- I wouldn't worry about.. The dropped mag with a little sand in it or a windy day in a dirty shooting location, I would. I wouldn't want to needlessly test how much wear the sand/dirt would cause on friction surfaces.

My CZ shadow wouldnt fire after only 400 rounds of LRN. I had to scrape some lead or wax off the slide and back to shooting I went.

I've considered buying a used Glock and doing that. Would be fun. Shoot some real dirty handloads with Clays or Unique or some other sloppy powder.

I have decided to stop cleaning my CZ-97.....I will not abuse it in any way
Seems pretty abusive to me. What's the point? I see you say you just want to be sure it can do it, but other than this test, what possible situation is this supposed to replicate? Combat handguns? So what? Are you planning to take this into a combat situation where you are going to be unable to clean it?? Or really, any combat situation at all??

I've gone over 500 rounds, but that was in one session. When it gets shot, it gets cleaned. Gunk buildups can attract moisture and cause corrosion. It can cause wear internally and externally.

Sometimes I don't understand people. Maybe it's just me, but I'd rather take care of my gun and do what needs done to prevent excessive wear and not try to induce failures or breakage. But then again, I like my guns.

i would think somewhere between 500 and 1000 rounds there would be some build up on the ramp which will cause a failure to feed. for reliability and firearm "hyiene", i clean mine.
