I've been looking at the debates on this forum for the past week or so, observing with some pitiful amusement the debates raging about the death of the Clinton Gun Ban. But now that it's officially dead, the whining's risen to the sort of level where I couldn't bite my tongue any more. So I registered, and now I can say that I've futilely tried to shed light on ignorance and, at the very least, point out flawed or outright false information. Undoubtedly I'll be unsuccessful at cracking anyone's armor, but I can't shut up any more.

Don't worry, I will continue to take the High Road there, in contrast to some of the posters on the other side of the issue.

Actually, there are several other outspoken opponents of the Clinton Gun Ban there, who generally do a good job of refuting arguments, and they're, well, tolerated. I've just gotten to the point where they're not covering all the inconsistencies I see, so I had to toss in my own oar.

I don't think I'll be banned, though- I'm not going to get upset and flame anyone, nor will I be baited by the mocking remarks of the Brady faithful.

I must be doing something right. Five posts so far, in an active forum, and even the most vocal people have yet to refute anything I've said, though they've attacked others since my injection of logic. This can't last long, though...

EDIT: never mind.

*reminds self of the futility of arguing on the Internet*

Good on ya!
Even in the impersonality of the internet I still find it unpleasant to get slammed for postings. And given that the John Fraud Kerry people have nothing but anger and emotional tirades on their side I would expect the responses to be nasty. I have talked to several friends about the stupidity of the ban and at the least, they have dropped their ill-informed opinions. They aren't running out to buy 30 round magazines for a new MP5....yet!
Keep trying, we have a lot of work to do!

I've perused some of the liberal/Democratic party forums ... for the most part, I find the discourse juvenile, emotional and as far as most posters go, indicative of a total lack of any sort of meaningful life experiences. Some pie-in-the-sky thinking ... Those forums generally make me cringe, since most of the posts are a damning indictment on the state of public education in this country ...

But now that it's officially dead, the whining's risen to the sort of level

What I find amazing the amount of sheep that didn't even have a frickin clue until they saw in in the morning paper. Of course they had to dig fairly deep to even find mention of the falling ban.

When I have talked to co-worker about the ban, most didn't even know a law can just expire
or really had no clue what the AWB was about.

What I do find scary is that if even half of these sheep would pay even a little bit of attention to what's happening in Washington (other than whats in the fish wrap) Those many voices could have caused a lot of trouble for us.

I wasn't banned there for my postings, but for my screen name: The_Second_Coming_of_Dukakis:D

I tried, believe me I tried...I tried to read through the posts over there. Some of them are reasonably well-versed in what the AWB actually was and what it wasn't.

Then I could feel my intracranial pressure rising and I had to leave.

I'll say this, though; it took longer than it always does when I peruse DU. It must be beacuse there was a semblance of rational discussion without immediate nanny-nanny-boo-boo.

If you could register, you're a better man than I, Gunga-Din.

My compliments and regards on your presumed longevity on the board in question.

Regards,
Rabbit.

I clicked on the link and started to click on a post but I got this queasy feeling like I just slammed a whole bottle of Ouzo in one shot. Needless to say I rushed back to THR to help me wash away the unclean feeling.

heh 1st post down - just after that idiot replied to you again MisANTHrope...

hehe

J/Tharg!

Went to register, decided to give them an old invalid e-mail address because I figured they'd start sending me a bunch of unwanted pro-sKerry spam.
Didn't work. Oh, well.

Yeah, looks like "big sky brad" has finally gone off the deep end. The thought of all those killing machines flooding the streets was more than he can take.

*Yawn*

For the love of God, I'd at least like TexasForKerry back. He's condescending and ignores when I refute his info with facts and links to the info, but anything's better than Brad just continually posting that Bush is history. Wow, that proves a lot!

I jumped in there and threw in my two cents about a month ago. Its not worth your time, most of the people on there are so far to the left that they are no longer of use to humanity.

Very good posting by our side. Hope it will do some good. At least it might make someone think.

Getting interesting now. A Million Mom Marcher just asserted that the ban was so effective that no LEOs were killed by banned weapons during the last ten years. This put me in the interesting situation of referring to a VPC report to prove her wrong- which was odd-feeling, I'll admit.

Yeah you bailed me out on that one I was pretty sure she was wrong but could not cite the numbers you did. We're pretty much posting side by side over there.

Now some guy want's to store all of our guns in a comunal warehouse, to be used in the event of invasion or something

Good for you guys. I stumbled on that thread today doing a Google search for the 6.5 Grendel of all things. I read about 10-15 pages of it. I was suprised at the overall level of civility and great pro-gun posts. I would have been tempted to join, but our side is well represented and seems to outnumber the antis....Brad is annoying and a broken record he is well versed for an anti though.

My favorite post was the one by the ER nurse who said when the Ban ends they will have to change her ER into a morgue.

I read through Vol. 3

I commend you guys for your efforts....but boy ain't it frustrating when people are so closed minded....or they just don't get it.

I was impressed with some of the anti/kerry supporters civility as well.
Then there were others that were just as I expected they would be.

They sure seem confident that Kerry will win. I think they will be disappointed in Nov, but you have to admire their gulli...I mean enthusiasm.

I hope those forums stay up when Bush wins. Now that would be fun.

Smoke

If you read further into the forum you will find
1 thread about a man that threw a baby from a moving car , therefore he must be a compassionate conservative.
Another implies that men who like Bush are impressed with his "guyness" because we have all been castrated by our wives.
Look in a little deeper away from the AWB threads. they have their fair share of idiots too.

Not to mention the little jerk that edits his comments to change their meanings after they have been replied to thereby making my comment seem out of place and off the mark
