They are not bad pistols. That being said the only hands on experience I have is with that exact same model, and it is currently on its way back for service. It probably wont feed SWCs, none that I have shot will. The one in question that is being shipped back will choke on regular WWB JHPs, and Gold Dots. They are configured from the factory for a 6 o clock hold, which I dont care for, but many do. The trigger takes a lot to get used to. A lot of takup, a soft break and then a lot of overtravel. This can be worked on though.

I have read on XD Talk that a few of them have minor feeding issues, which is usually fixed by polishing the feedramp. I'll (hopefully) sidestep that by breaking it in with about 300 rounds of my FMJ reloads, that should "slick up" the feedramp. If not...I'll break out the ScotchBrite pads. This pistol will never see a SWC bullet...

Same for the 6 o"clock hold...some are, some ain't. If hers is...I'll fix it (or see if Springfield will). She has already ordered Crimson Trace lasergrips for it so that will buy me some time to get the sights sorted out.

I fired a few rounds through one that belongs to the guy that owns the gun shop that I go to most of the time...the trigger on his wasn't bad, I liked it way better than the Glocks I've fired.

Thanks for the feedback.

According to springfields manual, they are all 6 oclock hold. Some people like that, of course, aftermarket sites, and thats a non issue.

As far as trigger, I much prefer the glocks trigger, but to each thier own. I am sure that if I shot the XD more I would get used to it. The lack of feeding is more troubling to me than anything. I dont care for paying for a gun that needs work to be reliable.

I have one that has worked flawlessly without a single failure for several thousand rounds. The word is that they don't feed semi wadcutters reliably, and I have only used FMJ, Lead round nose and various hollow points. Never had any work, gets cleaned when I feel like it, and still keeps a ticking without a hitch. It would be my "what handgun would you keep if you could only keep one?" handgun.
They are very reliable, with the exception of swc's.

congrats, and good on you for getting her what she wants. I don't have that model but i do have a xd service model that i love, over 12,000rds and i couldn't be happier.

I've got one on order from Buds Gun Shop. Should be here early next week. I ordered a bunch of 230gr Gold Dots to feed it. Looking forward to getting this gun.

DigMe,

You got a better deal than I did...I saw Buds prices, but he was out of stock and i was tired of looking for one.

I (she) should have this one in hand Monday or Teusday.

I didn't even look to see if the black ones were in stock. I just ordered the dark earth because it was something like 35 or 40 bucks cheaper than the black at $504 shipped. According to their tracking it looks like it will probably ship out today.

Got the same gun. No feeding issues, no complaints. Even my "the only gun in the world is Glock" buddy likes the trigger pull... after he complained how heavy the gun was lol :p

Oh I see... I was looking at the black compacts with the 5" barrels.

My gun dealer down the street said that all he's been able to get are the dark earth as well. It would have cost me about 80 bucks more to buy the same gun from him though unfortunately.

Just bought my 45c last month at the Relient gunshow... $440 new in box w/ all the gadgets..

Sweet. I thought about waiting to go to a gun show but I just was not seeing any time in the near future when I could make it to a good one.

I LIKE IT...and that's coming from a diehard 1911 guy. (now I know what Clint Smith likes about it...its an easy gun to shoot fast...accurately)

The trigger is not near as heavy as people say they are, it stages nicely. The sights are dead on at 15 yards, it ran like a dream...350 rounds and it gobbled them all up without any problems. (300 of my reloads, 50 WWB).

Its my wife's pistol...she loved it. There is nothing like the smile a person gets when the first round out of a new pistol hits the bullseye...that smile of satisfaction.

It is the softest shooting 45 I've ever fired...even with my hunting loads (some of which push 230 grain bullets at 900 fps from a 4" barrel) it still was not punishing to shoot.

With standard loads it was a breeze...not harsh at all.

+1 pretty much same experience as Ridgerunner665 . . .

thousands of rounds - no mis-fires - nada - zero - zip!

No Problemos whatsoever . . . shoot it - clean it - shoot it !!!

It eats whatever I feed it . . .

It's a better gun than I am shooter - it always hits where I point it!:uhoh:

Just got mine in from Bud's yesterday:

Here it is loaded with the shorter 10 round mag. The grip is the perfect size for my medium-small hands

And here it is loaded with the longer 13 round mag that has a grip extension on it. I really like the out-of-the-box convertability of this gun

Itching to shoot it.

Digme,
congrats, it looks great, i love the flat dark earth.

The trigger is not near as heavy as people say they are, it stages nicely.
and like a fine wine it only gets better with time, and rounds down range, they really smooth out after about 750rds, and you will see a huge difference after 1000rds. my xd is at over 12k rds and i couldn't be happier.
