In Guns Magazine's Combat 2003 Annual, page 85, there is a pic of the new HK G36c. It's a very nice looking weapon that I'll never be able to afford, but what caught my eye is the folder just under the foregrip.

With an aluminum (?) bolster and micarta slab, you get an attractive handle to match the interesting lines of the blade. Unfortunately, the knife is folded and all you can see is the hexagonal thumb-hole (ala spyderco) and a sharpened back edge.

As no top-strap lock is evident, we have to assume it is a liner-lock folder. The only other identifier is the hard-to-see cartouche just forward of the thumbhole. It appears to be a knight's helm over a crossed battle axe and broadsword, lying on a shield.

Anyone know the maker? Quality? Where can I get one?

Sorry, boss, but I can't find a pic or nothin!! I've been all over this stinkin' internet and nothing pops up. Heck, I even did a search for Nagata but none of his works showed the knife. The HK website had nothing, either.

What maker uses a Knight's Helm logo?

edited to add: logo on knife in pic matches logo used by Knight's Armament Co., maker of topshelf AR15's. search of KA website shows no mention of licensed folder. anyone heard of KA offering a folder in the past?

I've put in a RFI to the publisher for info on the products used in that shoot. Let's see what they come back with.

Well, I emailed Knight's Armament to see if they had licensed a maker to use their logo, like Surefire/Strider/Emerson. They replied back that the knife was in the works but they weren't sure if they were going to produce it afterall.

They didn't say how this folder came to be in the pic, if it was a prototype or something, and I'm left with very little else to go on. How Nagata got ahold of a knife that doesn't exist is one of those mysteries that just doesn't get solved.

Sure is a pretty design, though.:(

I'm betting that was a Steve Ryan/Knights Armament Collaboration piece called the Silver Knight, or it might have been the Black Knight.

Knights here in the U.S. is being particularly stingy with information about the knife, even though they have already hit dealers.
Its done through the Japanese end of Knights Armament, and is primarily being sold in Japan.
Triple Aught Design here in the U.S. occasionalyl has them in, www.TADgear.com

Here is the Silver Knight

All three... where you can buy 'em... if you got the $$$

All very sweet... and as close to a Steve Ryan custom as you can come, for under $1000 bucks. Because of his back-order, and not taking any more orders, collectors who sell Ryan pieces (which is rare enough as it is) demand premium prices.
Your next alternative are the two $50 CRKT pieces, neither of which hold the inherent wickedness and flesh eating shapes of Steve's signature blades.
