lead in glock

I'm trying to find out if I can reload cast bullets and shoot lead in my glock 17. I would never put more than about 200 rounds though it without a cleaning, and shoot light loads.
I've read the forums, and I know the glock is not made for lead. I know a need a different barrel to do it right. What I am interested in is the opinion of people with firsthand experience firing lead in a glock. If you do it, or your best friend who loads a lot and treats his guns well and knows what he is doing, I want your input. I don't want to hear about some guy 4 lanes down from you in the range who last cleaned his gun in the reagan era, or what you read on some posting somewhere about a kaboom. or what happened at the gun range 2 weeks ago.

Lead In Glocks:
Glock says not to.

That being said, I shot pretty much nothing but lead reloads in my Glocks back when I had lots of Glocks. I still shoot lead in my last remaining G21.
It's only a problem if you do not clean your gun regularly. Every 200 is not necessary. Just after every range trip is fine.
If you use lead bullets in a Glock, it is best to use a hard-cast alloy of lead (90/8/2 is good). Basically, if you can scratch the lead slug with your fingernail it isn't hard enough, and IMHO that goes for ANY gun not just polygonal rifled barrels (Glock/H&K).
Also, keep your velocity down in the lead bullet ranges, don't try to make them hot as hot jacketed bullets.
I have never had a problem and I literally shot thousands of lead bullets in various Glocks.

glock and kahr i have talked too personally and they advise against it. and i do as well, as it causes bad leading and fouling. if i was gonna shoot lead, i would get an aftermarket barrel, like an ekj firedragon etc.

with that said i know one long time shooting friend that shoots only lead in his glock. he hasn't had any issues, but i wouldn't do it though!

It's the rifling in the glock barrels. They say shooting lead could cause a bad pressure spike. That being said I know a few guys that shoot lead with no problems. I have three barrels for my glock and only use the factory barrel for home protection. I have a Jarvis and a lonewolf barrel for range use. Both of them have regular rifling and can shoot lead no problems. The lonewolf is a 9mm conversion barrel so I can shoot really cheap.

I have shot cast bullets in my Glock 23 .40 S&W for over 12 years now, without any leading at all, and no KABoom.

Bullets are cast hard from wheelweights + linotype, and pressures are kept at reasonable levels. (180 - 6.0 Unique)

If you stay below max with hard bullets you should not have a problem.

all the cautions and warnings I have come across before. the replies from the lead shooters where exactly what I was looking for. looks like it is not the best thing for the gun in the whole world, but fine if you keep your velocities and pressures down and the gun clean. thanks to all.

I have just over 4000 rounds of lead 180 gr. bullets fired out of my Glock 23 with the factory barrel. I shoot between 150 and 200 rounds before cleaning. I see no leading of the barrel and it cleans up with less then 10 cotton patches. Just stay below the max load and check for signs of excessive pressure.

Nothing in my Glock 17 manual says "No lead". It says "factory ammo only, no reloads". That having been said, I do not shoot lead in anything except one of my 1911s, and not even that very much.

Yep! Nothing in any Glock manual says no lead. They all say "No Reloads".

And every brands book says NO RELOADS anymore.

It's a CYOA lawyer thing!
