List your state

Here in New York State, it's very much county-by-county or even judge-by-judge. I have an unrestricted CCW, but a lot of people in my county are now getting the BS "hunting and target only." It seems to be the new default. Can be amended later to full carry... maybe.

OK here's NY State in a nutshell...

THE GOOD
  • pistol permits are good for life
  • many counties are "carry friendly"
  • can carry anywhere except schools, courthouses, post offices

THE BAD
  • no open carry
  • no carry in NYC with a NY State permit
  • unfriendly judges who drag heels on permits
  • AWB :banghead: :fire: :barf: :cuss:

THE UGLY
  • annual anti-gun circus in the House of Reps, where they try to pass bills like microstamping, three-year expiration on pistol permits, etc.

Bigbay: I agree with your comment 100% regarding listing your state. It should be strictly voluntary and closest city would be nice also. Come on Mods, lets be proactive.

Agreed. It's relevant to so many topics that come up. Seems counterproductive not to, and those of us that are Internet security-conscious can still post something useful enough.

I'm not going to remember what people have posted in this thread :banghead:, just add it to your profile so that people dont have to ask if you.

WA St - Shall issue, nothing required but a background check & being 21, quick turnaround in most cases (week or 2)

Don't know

Frogomatik - I don't recognize that name, but considering how little contact I have with those "stubborn equine" types, he may still be on the bench. Worse yet, former county board chairman and "power-broker" John Baricevic is now a sitting circuit court judge! :what: :barf:

My state is Vermont- Green Mountain State! and here its really relaxed, Conceal Carry Permit- NONE you just have to be 18. If you buy a gun from a shop, store you gotta register it like every where else. I think machine guns are allowed here as in NH they are. You can have a Semi Auto. Great beautiful state to live in.

I live in Vermont, pretty good I can carry at 20 which is wonderful, no permit required OC or CC. However there are a few things that need to change, we do have duty to retreat laws and I do not think you can get a suppressor but yeah not to shabby.
I think what Vt dear hunter meant was that when you buy the guns from a FFL it is registered, not a FTF deal which you do not need to register.

Washington: shall issue, pretty good overall. There is a waiting period, but it's waived for CCW holders. No registration or magazine capacity bans, but the state requires FFLs to collect nearly 10% use tax on transfers.

to axel above...

What duty to retreat laws in Vermont are you referring to?

According to the VT constitution Article 1:

Article 1st. All persons born free; their natural rights; slavery prohibited.

"That all persons are born equally free and independent, and have certain natural, inherent, and unalienable rights, amongst which are the enjoying and defending of life and liberty, acquiring, possessing and protecting property, and pursuing and obtaining happiness and safety."

I don't have to retreat from ANYBODY that tries to hurt me or mine...

So long as I don't carry with the intent to commit a crime or harm a fellow human being, I'm ok to carry. However, I do have the legal right to carry for self defense. I'm less worried with the two legged animals and more concerned with meeting the four legged ones on a back road late at night...

Also, buy from dealer it's registered and you are run through NCIC, buy from me or some other guy, it's a bill of sale and/or a handshake...

My National security and terrorism teacher, said that in Vermont if you can retreat into another room if you are in your house you are required to by law rather than stand your ground in that room.

California :barf: :banghead: :cuss:

Trying to get an AR is crazy... but I persevere. :)

Hopefully I will soon be able to move to a state that is actually free.

National security and terrorism teacher... say what?

@Axel... I re-read the VSA's and couldn't find anything about having to retreat from a threat. I've also re-read the entire Vt. Cons and didn't find it there either. NONE of my local towns (southern vt) have any ordinances about this. Can you provide the link to the law you are referring to?

I live in a town with no municipal police, only state police coverage. The barracks is at least 25 miles door-to-door from my house. Trust me, if a bad guy breaks into my home or threatens me or mine, he'll be looking up from the floor at the muzzle of my gun until they arrive and I guarantee I won't be the one getting arrested.

I'm not Johnny Rambo, and I'd hate like heck to do it, but if I'm put into a kill/be killed situation, I'm gonna fight with everything I got to stay alive, regardless of whatever the law states...
