Lone Wolf Barrells for 10MM

Have any of you had issues with feeding with the new drop in barrels from Wolf? Is there a break-in period for these barrels?This is a Glock 20 the gun is actually very accurate if I can get this problem solved. I'm having feeding issues that have never had with the stock barrell and I'm not real impressed with my results right now.

I have five LW barrels and one is for my model 20. The model 20 barrel had feeding problems with one bullet: Lee [hard cast] lead that was essentially a semi wadcutter. I never got it to feed properly and my fix was switch to a truncated cone bullet. All jacketed bullets fed just fine.

Call LW and ask to talk to an armorer. I talked to Dan, but any of them can help you out. At Dan's suggestion, I returned the barrel along with a couple of dummy rounds and he reworked the throat and returned it at no cost to me. But I still went with a truncated cone bullet for lead.

With the Lee TC bullet cartridge overall length of 1.235" - 1.240" works best. All factory jacketed rounds have fed flawlessly.

Maybe I need to experiment with a slightly shorter OAL on my ammo, but I'm going by the listed load data for Hornady FMJ FP but you get the high pressure risk then...I have not been able to cycle any factory ammo either.

So far I have not been able to get Lone Wolf to respond to my emails from Customer Service or the Armorer so Im sure I will be talking to Dan soon. I'm not getting the warm fuzzy from Lone Wolf at this point.

Despite the problems i'm having with the wolf barrel I got to say I really like the Glock pistol and the Glock 20 in particular. I have only recently started using autos as I have always reloaded and use revolvers only. I can see where the Glock gets such a large fan base. This is a very interchangable and versatile gun in the the most simple package I have seen and the after market is apparently huge. Never thought I would say I am a converted fan of the Glock. If I can get this wolf barrel to cycle now I will have another good hunting weapon because the new barrel is a lot more accurate than the factory in this gun...

I have had a few failure-to-feed issues with my G20 Lone Wolf barrel (10mm) when I use brass that was previously put thru my stock Glock 20 barrel.

My pet theory is that because the glock barrel has a slightly looser chamber, this allows the brass to puff-out a little more. When you reload brass shot thru the Glock barrel, the sizing die doesn't make it all the way down to the base of the cartridge. This means that the bottom of the case is still a little oversized. when you try to use that ammo in your LW barrel the gun doesnt always go fully into battery causing a FTF.

I have had no issues with my LW barrel when using factory ammo or when using handloads made with new brass and brass that was fired thru my LW barrel.

I did swap out my recoil spring and guide rod for a 22lb spring and stainless guide rod. I think (and take that for what its worth) that running the stiffer spring helps prevent the FTF issues because it throws the slide forward with more force...it does a better job of stuffing those handloads into the firing chamber.

Anyway, the stock Glock barrel is pretty good, so its always an option.

As to whether or not there is a break in period... I really cant say because I have made other changes (recoil spring) that make it difficult to say whether or not a break-in was needed.

I advise you not to try fixing/de-burring it yourself. Send the LW barrel back to Lone Wolf. Have them fix it and use your stock Glock barrel in the mean time.

From everything I have heard, they are good about customer service and will probably fix it or replace it for free. You might have to pay shipping, but then again you might not.

BTW, what Vintage is your gun? I bought the LW barrel because I had heard that Glock Barrels have poor chamber support for the back of the cartridge case, but when I compared the LW barrel to the Stock Glock Barrel, I found they were pretty much the same. The LW barrel does have a tighter chamber, but the case support is the same. In both case it was OK.

Those links may not be helpful since this guy had trouble with Lone Wolf and KKM barrels. Not sure if there's enough information to isolate his problems to the barrel, his gun or ammo.

But, responders may have provided useful information for you.

As said, you may want to review your reason for buying a new barrel. I have a Glock 29 made within the last five years. The factory barrel provides decent support, based on my expended cases of Double Tap and Buffalo Bore (180 to 220gr) 10mm ammo.

As does mine. I save all my cases for reloading and there are no "smilies." Should I get an aftermarket barrel, it will be only for lead reloads.

I think I might have solved my LW barrel problem with a little heavy polish job on the chamber. The gun seems to be feeding consistantly now...I will do some more shooting tomorrow and probably experiment with some warmer loads but as of right now it seems to be functioning fine. If this holds true I am very pleased...As I stated in my previous post I am pleased with the accuracy of this barrel. This barrel is definately more accurate than the factory barrel at least in my case...
