reloading / how long

Started reloading 12 gauge shotgun in 1965 and metallic shortly after. Now have 7 shotgun loaders and 6 metallic loaders with aproxamaly 50 sets of dies. Nothing like keeping the kids and Grandkids plenty of ammo.

I was 12! Couldn't afford 25-20 ammo when I could find it so dad got me a Lee Loader, an old mold with no handles, some powder and primers and I went to town.

Interesting answers.

I first loaded 30-30 and 44 Spl. Still do those. My first reloading was in the year 1957. I was still in high school.

I first started loading for my first gun, an M91/30 Mosin Nagant in its original 7.62x54R chambering that I picked up for $89. Got addicted to shooting, and no good source of cheap ammo, so I got a Lee turret press and some dies and never looked back. Nobody sold brass near me, so I bought factory brass ammo and shot it just so I could reload. Quickly discovered I'm the sort who shoots so I can reload, not the other way around. :what:

That was in 2003 I believe, so I would've been 26 years old, give or take.

Now I load 7.62x54R, 7.62x39, 7.62x25, .223Rem, .30-06, .45ACP, .38Spl, .357Mag, .380, .32ACP, and even though I don't own a gun chambered for it I'm thinking about cranking out some 9mm just because I have a heaping shipload of brass sitting around.

Think it's time to get into the ammo loading biz? Hmm.....

I probably started reloading 12 & 20 gauge skeet loads on a Mec Jr around 1982 - I was about 12. Then took a few years off, as I didn't start reloading metallic until 2-3 years ago.

Didn't buy my first handgun til I was 49 years old.
Started reloading after about a dozen boxes of factory ammo (about 2 months later)

I'm 43 today.

I started reloading two years ago, reloading for everything I had, mostly rifle but pistol too.

RCMODEL and WALKALONG are among the best and I honor them for the help they have given me -- USSR is an honorable mention. They have both helped me in real time, but even in searches I find their experience and wisdom very valuable.

Thanks to THR and the three mentioned!

I started reloading my junior year in high school with the .30-06 and 7mm remington magnum at the same time. Took a 3 year hiatus from shooting, and sold my reloading gear. Took it up again in 05, with the 7mm remington and the .30-06. Im 28 now....so i really havent been playing this game all that long LOL

Happy Birthday Art

As best I remember I was around 13 or 14 when dad let me start loading on my own.

.30-'06, for Dad's '03-A3. Lee Loader, under strict Dad supervision.
First pistol reloading: .45 ACP, also with a Lee Loader.
That'll teach you to think about ever round you fire!

Got a smokin' deal on a Ruger M77 MKII in 260Rem back in 2005. Started loading for it out of necessity. I've only ever tried 1 powder, H414, but tried several bullets. Never could get consistent groups out of it under an inch. No matter what bullet, charge weight, or COAL it never shot better than 1.25".

.30-'06 since I was first loading on my own in 1967. Still using the same dies today! I was "helping" my dad load before that, but when he died I just carried it all on by myself with bit of help from a lot of books. Those years don't count.... I was 14 and managed to keep from blowing myself up. :)
