43 years carrying, more recentlly after 100 pistols, I settled on Glocks for most things, along with a 40 shield and an XDS, for everyday carry, "I carry all the time", inside and out.I had an lcp, lc9, shield and finally ended up with the xds as my pocket gun, "the one that I always carry, in a remora or sticky holster, and traded the shield, I just didn't like the grip on it, believe it or not it was too thin for a 40. The M&Pc is just a far better pistol, it unfortunatelly is difficult to carry in the pocket, unless you have a pair of ccw breakaways on. But with the short mag and 90 grain powerball ammo, "for weight, it can be done.
But aside from that, it just feels so much better. The grip for my hands is perfect. And the balance and weight can't be compared. I understand why they made the shield like they did, but I believe that they could have done a better job on it, especially the extended mags, which have a tendancy to release upon recoil from the 40, most of the time it's the thumb sliding down and hitting the mag release. I don't want to worry about hand placement that should I need my gun. After field stripping the compact, I was impressed with the internals, similar to the glock, but an even better feel.

    One of our guys agrees.
He was in the Gun of the Month Club for a long time, but when he got a M&P compact, he settled down.
