    I've had a Carbine(NRA) since being dischared after Korea(AirForce). Would
    like to clean up the stock but not refinish, leave it original. Heard that Mineral
    spirits were good for this. Does anyone have a comment or better method?

    Probably So. Denatured Alcohol or Turpentine might be an option as well. Finish up by applying a nice coat of BLO. :)

    Thanks, TrafficMan & Alamo for the quick reply. Alamo, I'm from Baytown
    and lived in San Marcos a couple of years ago - Greetings

    Good luck with your project. I'm in the middle of cleaning up an Enfield Mk.4 No.1. I cleaned the stock with lacquer thinner and gave it several coats of Behr's Tung Oil as recommended on the C&R Rifle Stock forum. I assume you're familar with M1 Carbine disassembly, if not here's a good link;
