We once again have a chance at getting Constitutional conceal carry in Maine. That's the good news..

The BAD news is that if we don't get it, our whole process of conceal carry will change dramatically for the worse.

Basically, MAJORITY report on LD-222 would eliminate the town's ability to grant conceal carry, instead going through the all might state in one centralized database (bad).

The MINORITY report on LD-222 would make this process optional and just generally be the best thing since sliced bread :) allowing us to become the newest state in Constitutional carry.

So spread the word and contact your state reps asking them to OPPOSE the MAJORITY report on LD-222 and SUPPORT the MINORITY REPORT, the link gives you info on how to find out who your state reps are.
Please folks, let's get this thing done and secure our Freedom, or this time next year we might be registering our magazines like CT is.

As a former Maine resident (Thomaston 1987-1994), I wish you the best of luck. I'd rather be there than Connecticut.

I believe that's the Majority report so there wouldn't be anything in there. I will try to find the actual text of the Minority report and post it here if I can.

    Thanks Centurian!
Hmm, majority report mandates a new secret database about CCW holders and wants them to set a 'uniform permit process' (not doubt with extra requirements). Doesn't sound good, I like the Minority Report of no permits much better. If you have any friends/family in Maine please let them know about this and ask them to contact their reps.

Reminder: You need to contact your STATE representative & STATE Senator (not Collins, King, Pingree) about this. Wanted to clarify so the right people are getting it.

Haven't heard any update yet, they haven't voted on it. Will try to keep everyone posted.
Keep contacting your State representative & State Senator and any friends/family in Maine to let them know to do the same.

Was supposed to be voted on last Thursday I think but got postponed due to weather. The Gun Owners of Maine page and Facebook page seem to track its progress pretty well. I'm eagerly awaiting results myself.

A call to SAM for Answers

I called SAM and asked about LD222 and was told that there is much more to the story. Mr David Trahan, he had to look for the amendments to the bill. Here are the url to the amendments.

Hope this works, if not call the Sportsmen's Alliance of Maine for more info. Hope this helps.

(Edit) I tried the urls and they worked ford me.

Sorry about that. I'll try to call SAM and ask where they got the info they sent me.
  15. I know I'm in the Minority, but saving $20 every 4 years, to lose reciprocity with 20 some states is not a good trade off to Me.

I have had a permit to carry since 1978, it is neither hard nor expensive to acquire or keep.

It has nothing to do with the cost, you shouldn't have extra requirements for a Constitutional Right. Also, you're probably going to go through NH and MA to get to those other states, neither of which recognize Maine, so most travelers get other states permits as well. The main thing is stopping this trend of turning our Rights into privileges. There's not much requirements on CCW in Maine right now but who knows when they add to those requirements, which will likely be now if the Majority Bill of LD222 passes.
  17. So when did NH stop recognizing Maine? It must have occurred after I sent them a photocopy and some Money to get a non-resident permit.
I still stand where I am. I still think winding up like VT., which is limited to it's own borders, is not an upgrade in Rights.

If you had to get a non-resident NH permit that means they don't recognize Maine. It's extremely easy to get the NH permit especially if you have one in your home state already (Maine in this case) but if they recognized it then you wouldn't have to get a non-resident in their state.

So according to this map http://handgunlaw.us/states/maine.pdf if you were to travel to Kentucky they recognize Maine CCW so you wouldn't have to do anything extra to visit their state conceal carrying. Just have your Maine permit with you.

In any case, to each their own. Hopefully you agree though that the majority report of this Bill, making the state police the only ones allowed to issue and likely adding more requirements and requiring a tracking database on permit holders is not a step in the right direction.
  19. It's obvious to me you are confusing reconization with reciprocity. They are two totally different things. You are saying recognize, when you mean reciprocate.

My apologies, you are correct. I was speaking in terms of reciprocate.
