Hello all, I'm moving from Houston, TX to Kansas City in a few months. I had a couple questions to run by the members.

    1. My job is right on the border between Kansas and Missouri. Which state is more gun friendly?

    2. Is there a good long range gun club? I'm currently a member of Bayou Rifles and we've got everything from 3 yard pistol to 1000 yard rifle.

    Thank you.

Hello, i live about an hour south of Kansas city. as for the more gun friendly i think both are equal. i think both are fairly gun friendly. as far as the ranges there are some, i live in the country so i have never used them. but there are a few around, one in lake city is a big outdoor range and is only $3 a day. the others i have heard of are indoor dont know about the size. what area are you moving to exactly? i may be able to get more info for you.

    Kansas City, MO
I would pay more attention to the taxes than the relative gun-friendliness. Working in Missouri and living in Kansas (or vice versa) can affect your taxes in a significant way. But each state is pretty friendly. Both have CCW laws.

I'm moving back to Kansas City this summer.

Most importantly - make sure to check out Jack Stack, Gates, Arthur Bryant's, LC's, Smokehouse, and many others. :)

Pioneer gun club has a 200 yard range in Missouri some distance east of town. Not really any formal long range options around.

Living in Missouri is going to be a whole lot cheaper than living in Mission Hills, PV, Overland Park, or Leawood, but you'll take a hit on the schools if you have kids.

Planning to move back to Kansas from Hawaii. I used to lived in Overland Park, and moving back.

    1. What are the transport laws?
    2. Are there any gun safe storage law?
    3. Does prior residency count for ccw?
    4. Any good gun store you recommend?

Would it be better to take my firearm with me or just ship it?

Kansas is extremely gun friendly, especially since Obama did us the favor of moving Sebelius to the white house. Overland Park and Wichita are less gun friendly however. A lot of stores thew up no-concealed signs when the law was passed in these towns.

    1. Varies by municipality. UPOC (which 90% of towns in kansas have adopted) states firearms must be unloaded, ammo separate, out of reach, and in an completely enclosed container. In the western parts of the state I've open carried my pistol had an encounter with an LEO, who just asked it remained in it's holster. In Dodge City, we went through the McDonalds drive-through with our shotguns in our laps during pheasant season... but I'm pretty sure there might be at least one LEO in that town that'd frown on that. If you get you're concealed permit, you can carry in your car of course and even leave the gun loaded in your car while you're gone (if that's really yer cup o tea).
    2. Nope, none that I know of. If there is, i've been violating this since I could walk.
    3. No, you must be a resident for 6 months before applying.
    4. Cabela's in KC has got an incredible selection of used guns (you don't buy new, right?), but you have to haggle a bit for good prices.
    5. Would it be better to take my firearm with me or just ship it? Take it!

Remember I'm not a lawyer. Don't forget Smokin Guns BBQ in north Kansas City.
