M1A
AR 10 in 308
AR 15 old school
AR 15 M4orgery
6.8 upper for above
Winchester 94 or Marlin 336
Custom 10/22
Rem 870PM
and for fun a Tommy Gun.
Aside from the 22lr, the service rifles see more ammo than any others. Haven't felt the need for a bolt gun....yet.

I can't tell you what to have in your collection, but in mine I would still like to get:

Savage 99 (lever guns are cool!)
Model '95 shotgun (hammer/pump shotguns are cool!)
SKS (can't get an AK very easily in Canada; SKS is the best I can do)
M1 (love militaria)
.410/.22 over/under (always wanted one, just looks like fun)

I currently have:

Savage 111 in 7mm Rem Mag
Ruger Hawkeye in .30-'06
Lee Enfield .303 Brit
Ruger bolt .22
Savage Mod 64 .22 S/A
Winchester Mod 94 in .30-.30
Reminton 870 Express in 12 ga.
(Plans to get handgun very soon...)

And I would never trade any of them in!

Vern Humphrey got it right. The Pre-64 model 70 is the pinnacle of American firearms and crafstmanship. It could only go downhill from that.

If you like military bolt rifles and want great accuracy, you can't go wrong with the following:
Finn M39, Swiss K31, Mosin M91/59 carbine, and Swedish M96.
In the military semiautomatics my favorites would include the Garand, the Hakim, and the SVT-40. All are generally 3-4 MOA rifles.

+2 for a Remington 700 in .308 or .30-06. A Ruger 10/22 is always a fun semi-auto. Have you considered a mini-14 or 30? fun guns too.

Since you are in California like myself, no AK for us! BOO!

But an SKS is great.

Enfield is a good one, but exspensive ammo, at least it is to me.

But i do have a question. Where did you get the 9mm AR since all the ARs that can be bought now have to be top loading with out a magazine? unless i'm mistaken?

I was looking at a Model 700 "special" at Dicks today in 270 win. It's on sale and is a real looker. Maybe your local Dicks has the same gun in inventory. I think you need one! I don't, but I might anyway. Oops... you're a lefty. Scratch this... Buds in KY has quite a few left handed Model 700's in stock. I looked a couple days ago at their web site.

You really need a 22 rifle. I would look at a CZ452 for the best value for an accurate 22 rifle for the dollar.

For a rifle collection:

First and foremost, a pre-'64 Model 70 Winchester (preferrably in .30-06.)

An M1 Garand.

An M1903 or M1903A3 Springfield.

A Winchester M52 .22 LR

A Winchester M94 .30-30.

Dittos.....

762plinkster,

There are many in California who have and use Ak style rifles. As long as the rifle is not on the CA list, has a 10 round magazine that is made fixed by use of a bullet button, has no flash hider it should be CA legal.

You should do some reading over at Calguns.net

Look here to see CA legal Aks:

I see alot of folks want an M1 Garand, well at least, other than money, that is not a hard order to fill as there are alot around. I have the M1s and a Winchester carbine, if not they would surely be at the top of my list. But as it is now, a .22 L.R. or W.R.F., pre war Model 61 with octagon barrel tops my list. Unfortunatly, unless I hit the lottery I am afraid it will remain on my must have list for quite a while. :(

DUDE!

I mean dude, a SAKO. They are sweet bolts, and hold 1 more than most bolts. Like the 308 is 5+1, and the 300 mag is 4+1, not just 3+1.

Oh yes...
