Some of you may know, maybe you don't, but back in November, my wife who posts here from time to time as CajunsMisty, suffered a ruptured aneurysm in her brain. By the grace of God, and with the help of a a first class rescue squad team, flight paramedics, and a XXXX good team of surgeons and nurses, she survived. (Praise God!) She's been recovering since, and has come a long way, but still has trouble with her balance, walking and standing, and her short term memory.
Today she spoke up and said she was bored and wanted to know, "Can we go to the range?" She loves to shoot, but of course hadn't since "that day." CAN WE? You bet.
I packed up her Ruger MK II, and her Ruger Single Six, as well as my Dan Wesson 22, and my new to me Smith and Wesson Model 17. Grabbed the bag with a box of bulk pack Federals, ear plugs, and shooting glasses and off we went.
I had to go over some stuff with her again. How to load and fire the single action. After one time, it came back to her. I don't know how many rounds she fired but it was a bunch. Then she switched to the MK II and did another couple hundred I guess.
It was hot today, but she didn't complain about it a bit. The Lord blessed us, and we were the only ones at the range, so we could take our time with no distractions at all. The rangemaster told us to just let him know when we wanted to switch targets. She had to sit down to shoot, and use a rest, but she had a great time. When we finished, she carefully checked each gun twice to make sure she had them all unloaded.
Here she's taking a turn with the Model 17. We were about ready to go, when she asked to shoot it, and she didn't bother to put her bag down, but even then she shot a pretty decent group.
I honestly didn't know if I'd ever see the day when she would be confident enough to try shooting again. Thank you Lord.
