Natchez won't ship to my state?!?!

With the purchase of my new gun just around the corner, I was looking on the Natchez website for some cheap .40cal ammo after the local Wal*Mart kicked the price up to 18.99 a box for the 100 pack :barf:

Anyway, as I'm setting up an account on their site, I find out that they won't do business with people in my state and a couple others in this region? WTH? Anyone know why?
 
IIRC(?), they give exclusive distributing rights to other brick-and-mortar businesses in those states. They don't ship mail order to those areas in order to avoid competing with their business partners.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
 
Yea, I guess so. And with the lack of ranges in my town, I might as well stop and shoot at a TN range as well :rolleyes:

Been the case for some time, Nachez will not sell to Americans in adjoining states. They feel they have a duty to their wholesale dealer customers or some such. In my case, I just figure they have all the money they need and do not want my business.
 
I don't think they'll ship to me either. :-(

What city are they in? Do they sell over the counter?

OK - they're in Chattanooga. I drive past there now & again. The question of over-the-counter still stands.
 
I spoke with one of them on the phone, being a resident of the Chattanooga area, I wanted to strike a deal.

The guy was very polite, but firm. They do not sell to anyone in GA/TN/AL because they do not want to compete with the brick and mortars, call it a courtesy thing.

They don't sell person-person either, they are just a warehouse of ammo (so says the guy on the phone anyway) so in effect, I am unable to buy from them.
It sucks, but there are others.

Wow, just because something doesn't go the way you like with guns, you assume it must be due to the antis and criminals, when in fact, it has to do with our fellow gun people and non-competition agreements.
 
The anti-gun people have nothing to do with this policy. Natchez Shooter Supply simply does not want the business of people in AL, GA, or TN. They want you to go buy it from a middle-man, who will jack up the prices.

Sorry, Natchez, but that policy sucks.
 
Natchezz won't sell face to face in Chattanooga. I believe they are the top supplier to most local firearms dealers in Tennessee, Georgia, and ALabama. Their prices in the cataloge are basically the same as the prices they have for those local dealers and in effect they are trying to keep their customers in business.

The ammo prices are good. No, they are great. However, the cost to ship lots of ammo (and you want to buy it in buld from them, the 10+ box discounts are incredible) aint cheap and significant;y increases the costs (Ammo man includes shipping in his price already - cost is ultimatly about the same though I find Natchez has a much wider sleection as well as other things too). Knowing that, and if you have a decent relationship with you local dealer, you can usually do pretty good on the prices you pay to him.

When I am down in Georgia I go to a local dealer who basically sells me ammo for the just below the total price I would pay Natchez including shipping it to me in Virginia. Works out well for both of us. He gets the sale and gets to pocket 75% of the money UPS would have gotten. I get ammo cheaper than I could otherwise have gotten it.

Use your local dealers down there and buy enough to make it worth their time and you might be suprised at the deals they are willing to give you.
 
Just go into any mom'n'pop range and ask what kind of break they'd give you to stick another 1/2 or full case on their next order...it's surprising how flexible they become when they know it's presold, no stocking, no inventory issues, just take it off the truck and swap for your money. Cash or check also helps as they avoid the credit card surcharge.

Edit to add: It could be worse, you could live in Cook County, IL and NO ONE wants to ship to you! Not even powder and primers from many.

Ya know, its funny. All the time here we hear people yelling about not buying from Wal Mart because it drives the local gun shop out of business. And now, we find out about a business that actually goes out of its way and avoids competing with those local gun shops who are its main customers (because face it, the sales they would get in these states probably pales in comparison to those it gets from gun shops, etc) and it now gets hassled by THR users.

Jeeze. It might suck if you live in one of those states, but calm down. Just go and find someone else who is willing to pick up that part of the market. They are certainly out there. Or, as I stated in the post above, go to your local gun shop and talk to them about doing some sort of bulk purchase for you. The good ones always will - especially if they know you.

Oh, and Lone_Gunman - Natchez is the middle man. The handle the ammo between the manufacturer and the gun shop. If your going to complain to anyone (and I know I've made this argument here and on other boards) why don't we call for a boycott of the ammo manufacturers who won't sell directly to the public but instead make you go through a middle man and a retail dealer to get the ammo.

Umm, I was not even referring to the ammo sales thing with that comment. I was talking about the lack of available ranges in my town.

How would my town having piss poor selection of gun ranges have to do with a non-competition agreement :scrutiny:

I doubt anyone would disagree that living in a nation where there are more pro-gun people and less idiots using guns to commit crimes would result in setting up of more ranges for those who enjoy the shootings sports.

Everybody just chill, and take more than 3 seconds to understand the context of my previous post.

Back on topic, I am not being hypocrite for wanting a good deal. I don't have the vast selection of gun shops that some of you have in my town, nor do I reload. I'm just a shooter on a budget who happened to find some good deals on a website, and now I find out that they don't do business in my state. I am sure some of the cities in my town that are affiliates with Natchez, but rendering an entire state exempt thereing renders every single city (not matter how small or rural) exempt as well. That was what I was getting at.
