Nebraska gun freedoms?

I can tell you for a fact that the UP headquarters prohibits you from carrying weapons inside their building. They have signs up on the entrances. Under Nebraska law, even with a concealed permit, it's illegal to carry anywhere that posts signs prohibiting it. And if you do so and are caught, it's grounds for them revoking your permit and never issuing you one again.

If you want to buy a handgun from a store in Omaha (whether or not you actually live in Omaha) the store makes you go fill out registration paperwork with the PD before they'll sell it to you. Not so with the stores in LaVista, etc.

Getting the state handgun purchase permit was a breeze (for me anyway.) I think it was a five minute turnaround.

I don't know about the gun laws

But I have met some incredibly beautiful women from NE.

But...topic...oh yeah.

What about Union Pacific? I wouldn't think they would be very gun friendly.

Nebraska Gun

hey yall, i just thought i wood say hi..... i live in west NE, Cabelas HQ.... anyway, i was looking over this and there is very good advice. but the fact is IMHO that most of the state "chops" the CCW law. the City Ploice here say no to any CCW in car or on persons (Xin. knives included). can we do anything about this?

Thanks for the input Kowboy_Ne, and welcome to THR

I would gladly take lmited ccw compared to living in a may issue state. I feel that things will probably improve with time and like minded voters.

Register with OPD?? UNFRIENDLY???

That's NOTHING compared with NYC. I have to go through mounds of paperwork just to get a PREMISES license. I would pick Omaha anytime if compared with New York.

I work for a company based in NE, but I live in MT. According to the company's NE policies, I can't have a gun (unloaded or not) within 200 feet of the building. I can't have a gun, knife, OC, or anything else to defend myself anywhere near company property.....

The only good thing is, after this parker thing gets settled, you might be able to sue the cities to allow CCW. (I know, I know, it's too early to think about, but it may just turn out that way :D )

permit

the permit thing is a BIG deal here, i jst picked up my Wilson, in out in jst mins and out to punch paper, and steel plates. u go to the county sherriff and fill it out and it is good for three years, cant beat the time and risk of putting SSN on the form for them to tell you ya gotta wait for a day or two.:barf:

in my town we are trying to get the city to change the ordinance so we can make use of CCW permit.... does anyone know of any ''good'' classes on this end of the state, or midway down? i will take all the training i can get.... and as far as HUSKER FOOTBALL.......:barf::barf:

From a Nebraska-born (Sidney) gun guy who grew up and lives in Huntsville, Alabama, I suggest you all follow my lead (though I still support the Huskers...and look forward to the replacement of Callahan). The gun laws and general attitude are great here in Alabama for gun enthusiasts and supporters of the Second Amendment.

strat81 is quite correct and I was quite wrong. NE cities can and do pass no-ccw laws. Here is a link for more information:

Sorry, I had it in my head that preemption was fixed and simply goofed. Many thanks for the correction and putting me back on track.

Quote:
CCW can't be locally prohibited but open carry is (even though it appears this is illegal). Car carry of CCW or OC (except where prohibited locally) is okay.

CCW CAN be prohibited by local jurisdictions. Carrying a concealed handgun even with the state-issued permit is ILLEGAL in many Nebraska cities such as Kearney, Hastings, and Columbus. The NE CCW statute does NOT have preemption over local jurisdictions.

Open carry is legal everywhere in the state but is very uncommon. Omaha requires you to have an open carry permit. No matter where you do it, expect to be hassled and possibly detained.

Carrying a loaded handgun in a car in Nebraska is also illegal unless you have a concealed handgun permit. If not, it must be secured, unloaded in the trunk or similar lockable container.

Welcome, Kowboy. As for what we can do about preemption, the best thing is to head over to www.ccwne.com and join that board. Then, write your state senator asking them to approve it. If possible, see if that senator voted to pass the original CCW bill - they might might be sympathetic.

As for instructors, the State Patrol has a list on their website. Also, Paul Horvick is a member here, at CCWNE.com, and at Arfocm (I think his user name is phorvick on all 3 boards). He was my instructor and I highly recommend him. Not sure if he does classes that far out west. Good luck!

You might find that UP also has places here in Minnesota, Culture shock for you coming here, but maybe less so than Nebraska, we have good gun laws for the most part, and shall issue with perhaps the best CCW law in the land...well top five at least. Father in Law was a engineer for UP and CNW for years.

UP has places all over the western United States. I have to go to Omaha for 12-18 months for training purposes and then I may get relocated. I will get to pick between a few places.
