Just received my new used sig P239 DA/SA yesterday. First impressions are... IM IN LOVE! The gun has a great balance. Great quality that you can just feel. It really carrys well. I was nervous, everyone online made it sound like it weighed 10 pounds and its demensions were twice what they really are..... I guess they are just inexperienced or wearing junk belts. Its basically the exact same size and weight as my glock 23. Im really convinced, and only time will tell that I may have just found my perfect carry gun. Even with a lower capacity when I strap it on it just gives me a security that I have not ever felt with my Glocks, I cant really explain it. Maybe its the metal frame? Ive switched to the dark side, this is my second sig I also have a P238 and I just can not get enough. Im already looking for a deal on a 220 or 226 Or 229 well i guess i need a 938 now that I have a 239:rolleyes: Hopefully I Can get a Range Report here soon been pretty cold the past few.

Congrats - the P239 is a really nice gun. I was fondling one at a LGS this past weekend. I think I'm gonna end up going with a Walther for CC, but I would LOVE to add a 226 to my very modest collection.

Look forward to the range report when the weather relents for ya.

I bought one earlier this year. I really like the added peace of mind the DA trigger offers. It's a safety without the safety. Mine carries well in a Galco Avenger holster. I carry one spare mag in a Don Hume mag pouch. It is very accurate and easy to shoot. Good luck with it.

My old man preferred a 239 in .40S&W for years until he recently picked up a 220 Carry, now he can't seem to choose between the two guns, he loves 'em both so much.

Keep going with that Sig collection! I've got to get my own going, got a 238 and I plan on a 220 or a 938 before too long.

Or they just find a single stack gun with half the capacity that is bigger and heavier than something like a G19 is a big heavy gun for what it is. That is not an unreasonable position.

I have and carry bigger guns than the 239. I do not think it is too big to carry. I do find it a bit big for what it is.

Even with a lower capacity when I strap it on it just gives me a security that I have not ever felt with my Glocks, I cant really explain it.

Interesting, I've owned both sigs and glocks and can honestly say that just having one or the other in and of itself would not make me feel one bit more secure. Both are more than adequate as defensive pistols. If you like it and can shoot it well that is what counts though, as there are dozens of pistols are up to the task of CCW. I know my own pick is based largely on small personal preferences that I make me prefer it over other options.

Okay, last straw. Please understand when going forward I start going to G-lock threads and post unrelated comments about my Desert Eagle, 45-70 BFR, two shot derringer or WHATEVER my mind comes up with that day as a counterpoint to the G model being worshipped at that moment. I swear it's a form of.....okay decorum won't allow me to make the comparison to the condition I was thinking of due to my sympathy for the folks who genuinely suffer from the syndrome but these G-lock folks just can't help themselves, it's maddening.

It reminds me of the commercial, I think it's Planet Fitness where the Austrian sounding fellow answers multiple questions with the same robotic answer "I pick things up I put them down." Maybe it's an Austrian thing.

What are you talking about? The OP is the one who initially compared his new Sig to his glocks and a G23 in particular.

What's "maddening" is when people don't read the OP but decide to rant anyways...

Congrats on the new Sig. The 239 was my EDC for nearly 10 years and still gets carried today. How are you carrying it? What's your set up?

gunslinger15, I have a P239 SAS Gen 2 with the SRT (short reset trigger) and it's my CC pistol of choice (CrossBreed IWB or Galco OWB) so I can fully understand why you like yours so much. They are extremely accurate, extremely reliable and carry well. I changed the sites on mine to Heinie Straight Eights and moved the factory night sites to one of my P225s. I'd like some G10 or aluminum grips for it too.

It's easy to collect SIGs ... I have three P220s, two P225s and the P239 so I don't need any more, but I'll probably buy a couple more anyway ... specifically a P220 Carry SAS Gen 2 and possibly a Carry Elite Stainless.

i loved my P239. My only complaint was that i couldn't get a good grip that didn't have my thumb interfering with the slide lock and my pistol would never go into slide lock. I was doing IDPA and needed to be able to pull off quicker reloads... but other than that, I loved that pistol. With the sig night sights gave a really nice sight picture and it handled very well.

I'd say you "need" a 226 and 228, to say nothing of Sig P210.

Who exactly are you referring too?
The OP was asking for opinions on the Sig 239. Exactly what does a G-19 have to do with a Sig 239? The OP states that the Sig is about the same size and weight as his G-23 so I am fairly certain he is already familiar with the Sig verses G-lock comparison. The man is enjoying his Sig, give him his moment of satisfaction.

Great purchase. The 239 is one of the classics in the great line of SIG pistols. That gun is next on my list.

I've always preferred the single stack SIGs so I don't think a 226, 228 or 229 is in my future although I've considered them. I've never even considered a 210.

Where in it did he ask for an opinion about it? There is no question anywhere in the OP. It is a series of statements. He expresses some derision towards anyone who thinks the gun is big and heavy. I simply provided context for what people might mean when they say that. As he and I both noted it is not that heavy or big in absolute terms. It is, however, somewhat heavy and big for a 9x19 pistol with a 9 round capacity. That is probably what a lot of people mean when they make statements about its size or weight, or perhaps they just lack experience or a gun belt.

The OP then mentioned that he has an inexplicable visceral reaction to the sig that causes him to have more confidence in it as a defense piece vis-a-vis a glock. I noted that was interesting and both were, in my experience and opinion serviceable guns but there is something to carrying what you feel good with/about.

In sum there was no question in the OP. He made statements about two guns. I made statements relating to and further discussing what he said about them. If that type of exchange rubs you the wrong way then perhaps an internet discussion forum is not the place for you.

ugh... can't we all just get along?

how 'bout we just talk guns and not argue "he said/you said". I like this thread and don't want it locked, please.

Anyway... I say Awesome purchase!
It was just the other day that I bought mine. I had a 226 (still do, of course) but wanted a smaller, lighter package for ccw.
Did you get the 9mm or the .40? (mines a 9mm).

Also, you mentioned an Avenger style holster. Do you ever IWB with the 239? if you do what would you recommend?

Again great purchase! I really love mine!

Out of curiosity what is it that you find preferable about say the P6/P225 to the P228/229/226 guns. Often when folks prefer single stacks it is that they like the thinner grips. I'd have to go put calibers on each, and admittedly I don't get out the P6 much, but I want to say the grip width is the same for a P6 and P228. Front to back (trigger guard to back strap) the P6 is slightly smaller. Basically the P6 is very very similar to the P228 it just holds fewer rounds. I get why one would buy a P6 over a P228 when the P6s were selling for $300. I guess I'm curious as to why someone who liked the P225/P6 would not be interested at all in a P228.

To me, the Sig P226 is the prototypical Sig. The model that first comes to mind when I think of the brand. It is a gun on my "guns to own just to have one" list even if it isn't my personal favorite model or the one I would necessarily chose for utilitarian purposes.

Also why no interest in the P210? It is even single stack. It is pricey, but a crown jewel in any Sig collection and sweet shooter. It wouldn't my choice for a lot of tasks but a very cool reference piece for a sig fan.

How about a sig 232 for single stack? Although it takes a back seat to more modern guns as a carry weapon (it is the size and weight of 9x19s and big and heavy for a 9mm krutz) it is just a sexy gun with classic sig quality.

The thinner grips is why i prefer the single stacks, myself.
And may I say what a beautiful piece you have there! Did those grips come with the piece or did you add them? It looks REALLY good. I think something like that is next on the list (please don't tell the wife!).

My first SIG (which I still have) was a P220 in '92 so for me the P220 is the "prototypical" SIG but I see your point and agree that for most people it's probably the P226. I like the single stacks due to the grip size. I don't have small hands but I've always liked the feel of a slimmer grip. Maybe that's why I have quite a few 1911s. To be honest, I haven't handled a P226, P228 or P229 in years ... maybe I should give them another chance.

Absolutely. I've always been drawn to that pistol (mostly due to the appearance) but have never shot one.

If I wanted a single-stack 9mm Sig I would go with the P6/P225. The grip on the P239 is too short for my hands and the stainless slide doesn't balance as well for me as the older, folded carbon steel slides that were lighter.

I like the Sig 239's as well....and I've picked one up in 9mm and one in .40S&W....

I have big hands ....so I've put the rubber Hogue grips on mine, with the finger grooves...fits my hands better...

and I have no issue - if I want to carry them / they're fine ....( 8 +1 in 9mm and 7 + 1 in .40S&W ) ....and if I carry them, I carry them with 147gr Hydra Shok in 9mm or in the .40 I carry it with 180gr HydraShok ammo ...I like the decocker option for a carry gun ( although I'm primarily a 1911 guy - on target or range guns / and in my primary carry gun ) ....the Sig 239 is another good option....

and its a good training gun for my grandkids....the Sig 239 in 9mm is a gun that a lot of the kids ( from 10 - 14 or so, seem to gravitate to) ...nice and simple to manipulate - easy to understand. In terms of a lighter gun ...I also like a 1911 with an alloy frame, in a 4", especially in a 9mm ...as another light carry option...like the Kimber Tactical Pro II model...I picked one up a few yrs ago ...and its another gun the kids like vs the bigger and heavier, maybe more intimidating 1911's whether they're in 9mm or .45 acp....

Its all about finding a gun that has the right weight, the right feel...in your hands...whether you want a range training gun ...or a carry gun...there are a lot of options out there....but the Sig 239 is a very good choice in my view / especially over any of the poly frame options out there....(again, in my opinion ) ...but I'm not a poly frame guy...

Sorry for any hurt feelings. I wasn't down talking glocks. I only brought it
Into the post for the size comparison. Yes the p239 is heavy when comparing its weight to capacity, but what you lose in capacity I feel the weight makes up for in balance and quicker follow up shots.

I took it out to my range yesterday ran 300 rounds of Speer lawman and 20 rounds of 124gr gold dots. Excellent shooter. I shot at 5 and 10 yards great grouping. I really liked the grip angle, and the dot post sights made it very easy to get focused on front sight quickly. The single action trigger is nice I'd say 3-4lb break feels really good. Double action is really nice I actually shot better double action. I'd like to find one with the short reset trigger to try and feel the difference.

Also ran 100 rounds of Speer lawman through the p238. Excellent shooter as always no malfunctions to date with probably 700 rounds down range.

As far as ccw I carry in a iwb hybrid made by tommy theis I highly recommend his holsters. It's been cold lately so I've carried it owb in a Tagua leather paddle holster with a jacket over.

Congratulations on the P239!

The P239 is my most frequently carried gun because I can shoot it better than all but one of the (mostly full-sized) pistols I have ever owned. Confidence in a gun's performance is a huge subjective factor for any carry gun.

OP, thanks for the range report. I hope no one thought I had hurt feelings. I don't have enough brand loyalty (I own at least 12 different brands of handguns) to get my feelings hurt. As I tried to clarify above I was just trying to add context to why some people may say the 239 is a big or heavy gun.

And may I say what a beautiful piece you have there! Did those grips come with the piece or did you add them? It looks REALLY good.

To be clear, the one actually pictured is not mine. It is merely illustrative. I tend to buy a lot of guns guns used, and have bought all my sigs save the P238 used, but I believe those were factory grips. I've seen a number of guns with them. However, I don't see them listed on sig's website currently. At any rate wood grips can be had for the 232 easily. The 232 in SS with wood grips is just a gorgeous gun though. I have to admit my attraction to it is also mostly looks, even among sigs I prefer the 238 as a carry gun/BUG.

I tend to like thinner single stack guns as well. If you get your chance to lay hands on a Sig P228 you may find the grip to be substantially similar in size to the P6. Although I have heard some folks opine that the P6 still feels better in hand to them.
