New to reloading - powder charge confusion

The more I learned about reloading, the less I found to be impressed with those "load-book" rehash pamplets.
I've only ever bought one, but am I mistaken in my belief that the contents are NOT definitively attributed for the date or version of the original manual/list that the info originated from?
They just don't seem to be a worthwhile place to save? money when buying materials related to reloading MY ammunition.
Maybe as a comparison, but NEVER as an exclusive source of load data.

Wow, so basically like a muzzle loader I could pack in a paper napkin and seat the bullet. That would give me a different result than a regular round?

Interesting......so much science to start experimenting with.
Jim Watson has a point. Smokeless powder behaves very much differently than black powder and this technique (fillers) is nothing to experiment with until you have thoroughly researched the matter. Overpressure is only one thing to know about.

Caution is the watchword and knowledge is the key.

Good luck.

The first person to experiment with loads with a new powder is taking a risk. Everyone else should observe the prior results before proceeding to expand the frontiers of their personal knowledge.

I have a 44 special Charter Arms Bulldog with 2in barrel and I use H110 powder. Unique power will not give you a full case charge which makes it very easy to get a double charge in your case. So while being new to reloading be very careful using unique powder. Also you will find that the Hornady book will usually be more conservative than Sierra.
