You know the gun I'm talking about, the little .22 that looks like an HK !
Well, apparently, HK sued ATI, the builder of the GSG-5 for making an unauthorized HK copy. All GSG-5's in the country can still be sold as they are. All in cargo containers coming to America must be stripped/disassembled for warranty parts for any future warranty claims.
Damn...they were a really nice little gun.
 
I assume they imported a pantload of these leading up to the cutoff. That seems to be standard practice for gun manufacturers.

Next year is going to be interesting for military-style .22's: HK/Umarex is making MP5/MP7/416 clones (hope they don't suck!), Sig is already shipping the 522, S&W and Ruger are shipping their AR's and... seems like I'm forgetting one.
 
So we can expect some gun-show dealers to have absurd price-tags on their stock and a great line about now or never?

Spoken like a man that never owned one, thank goodness the internet gives us all an outlet.

Mine has been reliable and fun, glad I own it and sad to see HK bully a gun off the market.

The simple fact that they are made by Umarex means I would be very reluctant to spend money on one. I'd wait a couple years and see what kind of reviews they get before spending any money on one, Umarex has a less than stellar track record.

Mine has been incredibly reliable for thousands upon thousands of rounds.

All of my friends own at least one or two and I have a second one on layaway at my local shop. All my friends love their GSG-5's and I have yet to meet anyone who doesn't love theirs.

The GSG-5 is a fine gun at the fraction of the cost of a real MP-5. The only people who seem to think they are junk are the people who don't own them.

I have a GSG-5PK (pistol). The only problem I have is that the mags only hold 22 rounds. Because my GSG has never had a FTF or jam it goes thru them too fast. I spend a lot of time reloading my 2 magazines. I did buy a couple more.
Great gun...get one while you can.

But please, everyone buy all the plastical tactical .22 toys you can, and stop buying guns like old Marlin 39s. We could use a little less demand, so I can snap up a few more of them.

High Standard Victors and S&W Model 41s, too. Quit buying those. Buy more P-22s.

My experiences with mine has been the same as the above...horrible...I always run out of ammo trying to make it jam in vein...just horrendous. :D

Yes, it does matter to me what people buy. Aggregate demand influences prices, and used gun prices particularly. If people buy more videogame-inspired "tactical" .22s, there will be less demand for, and lower prices for, other .22s out there that I actually want. As it stands, there are still plenty of buyers for every old Mountie that comes up for sale -- enough to keep the prices up.

(Not all my .22s are blue/walnut, either -- I just don't currently need any more that aren't.:D)

I tend to think they are overpriced as well, but I wouldn't go so far as to call them "junk." I can't say I've heard anything bad about them talking to people who own them. I simply wouldn't buy one for that price. Personal preference and other things I want more.

I also wouldn't pass up a chance to shoot one either :D


What I love is being at a gun show, looking at some other pistols or whatnot with one of the 22 MP5 clones on the table next to me, and a group of "know it all" gang looking types or other moron types comes up (usually not many of either at the gun shows, but it is Houston...gonna have some).

They see one of these 22 MP5 clones and are like, "Whoa! An MP5. Man these things are awesome. How much? $600...not bad man. Full auto. Dang I really want one."

It is all I can do to keep from laughing out loud. They don't even realize it is a 22, have no idea how much a real full auto MP5 costs (like $15-19K), and no idea of the requirements to own a full auto. :neener:
