For some time now I have read and sometimes contributed to various threads concerning the imminent election- at first I was angry at the possibility of a Kerry election- after some passage of time, my anger changed to a fearful concern, as it appears to me that this country is in fact, dumb enough to elect Kerry- I have finally reached a stage of calm determination that manifests itself with the freedom of mind and spirit where, although I hope for a Bush victory, a Kerry election does not fill me with dread- this is how it came about- my dearest friend and wife of 36 years is somewhat of a pollyanna when it comes to my concerns regarding the RKBA- she does not shoot and has no interest in my "other love"- she has a somewhat simplistic attitude concerning my firearms- she sees it as a hobby that she tolerates because she loves me, and she just "can't believe that anyone is going to take away your guns"- in all our discussions regarding this issue over the years, the only time she said that something finally made sense to her, was when I told her that I couldn't understand why anyone would want to take away from me, as an honest citizen, the same tool to defend my family that the bad guys use to threaten it- just two days ago, my wife reminded me that her mother and one of her sisters were coming for a weeked visit, and asked that I not get into any political discussions- no biggie because I really enjoy her family, but it suddenly dawned on me that I was no longer in the angry or fearful state I once was- I had over time decided that it really didn't make a great deal of difference to me if Kerry and his trial lawyer "Batboy" did pull off the unthinkable- I had quietly made up my mind that no one was going to remove my guns while I had breath in my lungs- somewhere in the cosmos of my brain, I had made the determintation that if the line was finally drawn in the sand, I would rather go standing than kissing some liberals ass on my knees- this was much different than times in the past when this thought would enter the void of my brain in the heat of passion- one of the most important lessions I have learned through the years is to never make a decision in the heat of battle- cold calm rational decisions are best- thus I am no longer concerned as to the outcome of the election- and my response to my wifes request that I not get into a political discussion with my inlaw relatives?- I quietly told here that I had no interest in getting involved in such a discussion- but I added that if worse came to worse following the November decision, if the Feds ever showed up at the front door, her first duty to me was to quietly slip out the back door and not look back-
 
There are all sorts of sources for statements about fear.

From the Bible to the sci-fi epic Dune, to statements from philosophers and old football coaches to martial arts senseis to Presidents, and just about every single source imaginable.

They all say pretty much the same thing.

Fear is just not worth the energy.

All worrying does is wear out your arteries sooner with higher blood pressure.

Decide upon your course of action. Come to peace with it. And then move on.

Can a man add one cubit to his stature through worry?

Nope. So why do it?

But, just one statement here....... based on the fact that Bush is still leading, even after all the crap that's been pulled by the media, based on the fact that the People's Republic of Hawaii looks like it's going to be "Bush Country" this time around, based upon the fact that polls show Bush leading in all sorts of other states that went for Gore last time, I don't think you have much to worry about, anyway....even if you really wanted to waste the energy worrying......

When the doctors told me I needed a heart operation some years back or die, I became afraid.
I soon realized that was a waste of time because I could not control the situation.

I resolved in myself a peace of the inevitable.
I got my affairs together. Told my wife and kids I loved them and checked into the hospital.
When they brought the bed by the waiting room and I said my good bys, they wheeled me into a cold, very bright operating room.
I resolved the fact that this was the last sight I might see.

I did wake up a few days later in ICU. I was happy but it really didn't matter because I had accepted death.

I learned the operation went well and the repairs were done without the aid of pig parts and only one plastic part.

The doctor said I had come close and estimated if I had waited another month I would have dropped dead.

When I laughed, he was puzzled. I told him of my journey and the peace I gained.

While working hard to do everything I can for this election, I still have that peace of what ever happens is accepted. And will deal with it as it comes.

Life is too short to walk around with a public induced wedgee............

That, and even if Kerry does try something, such as that bill from 2003 that would've banned almost all semiautomatics, the backlash would be incredible. As stupid as it sounds, most people still think that only machine guns and other nasty stuff is being targeted by anti gun lobbies. When it comes full circle, and I'm sure it eventually will, you will see some serious protest and a great deal of backlash. Our culture isn't the same as the UK's, no matter how much people might want you to believe it is.

Look what happened to all the Democrats in congress after the 1994 crime bill. People are reactive by nature. If Kerry actually tries something, the negative reaction will be huge.

Of course, I'll still be voting against him.
 
You know what, we are all going to die someday. I can't think of a better way than defending RKBA.

It sounds like you have made the same decision. That is why your fear is gone.

Any country that accepts as normal Socialism Security, 50% taxes on their income, seatbelt laws, sobriety checkpoints, and the myriad of other gov't intrusions IS dumb enough to elect comrad Kerry.

This country is a vague shadow of what it once was.
 
Turkey, a President Kerry will not come for your guns. Even a President Rodham Clinton will not come for your guns. No one will come for your guns. The gun-control movement is much more insidious than that.

Someday, though, your descendants will be relieved to get rid of your dangerous sniper rifles and assault weapons. Fear not, in the meantime, and keep enabling the Republicans.

One of the very positive outcome is that I NEVER, EVER will believe ANYTHING the "Mainstream-Media", labeling themselves as "unbiased", will shove into my throat.

I cancelled my newspaper subscriptions, I don't watch the alphabet-soups.

Thanks to the Liberal Stalinists! They added another (formerly liberal) compassionate conservative to the American way!

Gordon Fink, that is a wise and very astute assessment of the prospects of our ilk!

I fear, we are a dying species, bound to extinction.

All those "enlightened" liberals, left-wing extremists, socialists and "progressive" thinking teachers in the schools will mould our descendants into good, submissive liberals, absolutely obedient to their "god", the allmighty GOVERNMENT. :cuss: :banghead: :barf:

A religious friend of mine used to remark, "God must like dumb people more than the rest of us because he makes so many of them."

Seriously: I've never claimed America is packed to the rafters with intelligent, well educated, well rounded people. I claim only this: we're not dumb enough to elect that Kerry creature. He might—just might—have stood a chance before September 11, 2001. He's been left behind. He doesn't get it. He can complain loud, long, and eloquently, but he doesn't have anything to offer.

We made the mistake some years ago of electing that Carter nitwit. We made it once, not twice. We made the Snopes Clinton mistake twice, but if you stop to think about it, that one was made by Republicans and conservatives who jumped on a third party candidate's band wagon.

I believe America wants another Ronald Reagan. Bush is what's available. That Kerry creature isn't even within hailing distance.
