Carcano

.45guy has a good point about the Carcano. If I reloaded I would shoot mine a lot more. Its Mannlicher magazine system is easy to use and pleasant.

Lee-Enfield. It's a slick. smooth action. Ten round mag in a proven round. Escpecially in the No4MkI version. One of my favorite guns to shoot. Honorable mention to the Ishy2A. Like that one as well, clunky stock and all.

I'd have to say it is a close second in my book. Both my father, and father in law have all matching #'s jungle carbines. Fine little rifles. The only problem I've noticed is that the flat springs in the mag do break on occasion.

45 Guy, that is a beautiful Carcano. I didn't think they could look that nice.

I assume you're talking about Mag's, as mine looks like another greasy mil-surp. You may want to check out Gunboards Italian firearms forum, there is a long photo intensive thread about the making of that rifle.

I guess my pet action is win 70. Got 3 now 1 on layaway and two that a buddy is building.

one shot one kill

Because they're light, handy, and almost universally detested.(Hence cheap.) They also chamber a decent round, and can easily be rechambered to a few other handy rounds. And yes, there is a more than a wee bit of WOP blood in my veins.

I won't argue that, unless were talking about the long rifle. My M91 (Terni , 1917) is the longest rifle I own, save my Armalite AR-50. But my 91/38 Cavalry (GVT, 1940)and 7.35mm M38 (Terni, Finnish marked, 1938) are definitely light and handy, and I do enjoy shooting them.

I only asked because this thread was entitled "pet action", and virtually any action can be used in a package as light and handy as the Carcano carbines.

FWIW, I'm Italian as well. Luckily, the darker complexion prevailed, as my Sicilian father got burned if he looked at the sun wrong.

Hey I'm glad you folks like your Carcano's... So far it's one of three military arms I've held that struck me as an absolute last ditch sort of weapon design. I'm still a little mystified as to how the country that brought us Beretta's famous arms produced such a poorly put together rifle for it's military. Just for clarity the other two were the Liberator and the nambu pistol.
