It's the last primary lead smelter. The products you describe are primarily sourced from secondary lead smelting. Further, the EPA didn't shut down Doe Run's primary lead smelter at Herculaneum, Mo. Doe Run chose not to upgrade the lead smelter and they announced in 2010 that they would shut down the smelter this year. This was a business decision that Doe Run Company made.

If you want to discuss this further search for the existing threads we already have open on the subject. This thread doesn't qualify for 2A Activism though.

While it is great you want to get involved and take action to start a petition, as a general rule the best approach is to avoid the whitehouse.gov site as a way to accomplish anything. The site is a way to get the attention of the Office of the President on an issue and doesn't actually cause prompt broad political pressure to be brought. Other sites like those put up by the firearms manufacturers accomplish those goals better.

To be specific about this issue - Uga is correct. The hyperbole about the Doe Run smelter having anything to do with ammunition production has been debunked by the ammunition manufacturers themselves. There was a thread in General detailing all the misinformation and corrections about this topic http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=732805&highlight=Doe+Run

Even the Day By Day cartoon corrected itself.
