With all the cosmetic flaws observed recently on current production 1911's what do you all look for when picking one out of the showcase. The Sig hammer lean, the Smith unfinished barrel crown, and the Colt recoil plug tube machined off center, just to name a few. Any other items to look for? Thanks, C

Real simple, pick up the one that reads Nighthawk Custom. Problem solved.

    - Slide to frame overhang
    - polishing blemishes on the edges
    - sight fitment (whether it overhands or you can see light through the front sight)
    - blemishes
    - idiot marks by slidestop
    - even checkering if it has frontstrap checkering- make sure the slide serrations are all cut the same direction!
    - MSH flush with frame
    - Extractor flush with slide
    - Even dehorn job if the gun comes dehorned
    - finish blotches or overspray
    - toolmarks on slide or frame.
    - Grip Safety is correctly fit.
    - "hole" under the thumb safety (doesn't bother most, and really doesn't matter, but still something I look for).
    - Even dustcover
