Chris,

Not Scott's fault on the pics.....he left the camera in the Jeep and I didn't get it to him until yesterday. We live 30 minutes apart and I just couldn't find time to get up that way. Anything after today is his fault though! :neener:

Hi Trisha!!! :) Long time no see. Yep - a tad far for you guys to drive! :p Indeed, a very fun day - good company and much brass everywhere after we were done!

(I am still behind on reading - ashamed to say!! Hope all well.)

Pics have been sent!! Although they're not good quality I'm afraid....I'll blame it on the camera!!!

Chris - what did ya' think about the signs posted at Sheetz? :confused: :uhoh:

Scott - thx for sending - tho as yet cannot find them!!! Did you use my THR email? Let me know cos I just did a quick test and that is working - so must check what you used - I assume they didn't bounce back? If any prob PM me and we'll check it out.

Signs at Sheetz??? Not sure I am with you on that! :confused: Can you elaborate!? Haven't been into a Sheetz for a while.

That Beretta 686 28g did indeed rule. Little does Anapex know that I swapped it with a clay replica after he packed it away. Muhahah! Wait..ah crap..I have the replica!

Would .410 be close to that, and good for skeet? I'm asking because a local shop has a Saiga-410 on the wall at a reasonable price. It's like my Saiga-12, except, y'know, chambered for .410. ;)

I saw Sheetz, even went in there, but didn't notice any signs. But then I was distracted (cute blonde). What'd it say?

Chris - I am no afficionado on the small stuff at all - but my thinking would be that the .410, as the most diminutive size, would be that bit harder. I do know a guy who used 3" mag .410 to great effect but - pricey ammo and certainly way above my paltry skill level! :p

What's that - the blonde at Sheetz - hmmm - missed that! :evil: :D

Let's see if I can get at least one of the Sheetz pic up here. It's probably not as funny as I think it is though....

There was another inside that made me laugh too, but I didn't go back inside to take a picture

Great sign! I'll have to make sure I stop at Sheetz at our next (hint) shoot.

OK folks - the other set of pics - well five of them - thx to Spot77 for sending them over to me. I've sl tweaked and compressed them a bit more.

only1-811-s.jpg

Only1Asterisk - with IIRC his #1 in 375 H&H - self onlooking.

stuff-813-s.jpg

''Stuff''!!! - maybe barely 10% of total ironmongery present!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
range-814-s.jpg
Shot looking up range - before sun had gotten out properly. Lot of clays on berms - that were to live VERY short lives!
spud-819-s.jpg
Haha - forgot about this. I brought two potato cannons - one 2" and this, the 1 1/2" - due to small potatoes this got used most. Here just after launch - probably reaching up some 400 - 500 feet. Simple grin production!
cbclay-815-s.jpg
The dreaded hand thrower - which took me a while to master! - here it would seem I'd managed one of my more successful launches!
Thx again Scott - and all.
No problem!
My favorite has to be the the one with the spud gun - look at everybody looking up and leaning back....
Those clays were really fun to shoot.
P95Carry,
The rifle I'm holding in the photo above is your own 45/70! I might not have noticed either except it has a scope. The photo was taken right after I'd managed to hit the gong by aiming a foot above it.
David
Aiming a foot above it? :eek: Yikes, that's why I couldn't hit anything out there with that rifle (that's my story and I'm sticking to it :neener: )
Haha - thx for the correction David - indeed the scope presence should have wised me up.
Paul - yep - it was not really fully sighted in at all - the week before I had roughly got on the paper but not all that well - plus I know the current load is not grouping too tight at all. Once I have burned up my remaining pound of 3031 I'll get to some RL7 loads and feel that somewhere up the top end I'll find the best for accuracy.
Well there's nothing like kicking a dead horse and I have nothing against it so now it's my turn to post! It was great to see all the old faces again and some new ones. We'll have to get a mid-summer early fall shoot planned. It's been two weeks since the shoot and for some reason I still don't have a Ruger #1 in a large caliber. I'm amazed I've held out this long. The poor Mauser that Don broke is still at the smith waiting for proper headspacing gauges for the caliber. After a long talk with the smith we both seem to think it was a freak round but we're waiting for the gauges so we can be certain. On another sad rifle note, I just finally got to cleaning the guns this weekend (been real busy) and to my "joy" found out that the 30-06 ammo I had been shooting all day from the Garand wasn't non-corrosive like I thought. So when I opened up the case I got to see a nice bright red ring around the crown :( . It's mostly shiny now but there are some frosty parts not quite pitting but not as smooth as it should be. Anyway if anyone has a line on a pistol-gripped, 23 inch barreled 12 gauge Saiga with 8 round mags lemme know. The 28ga just doesn't scare them here like it should ;) .
Oh yeah favorite quote from the day was from Caseydog while trying to sight in Norton's Savage, "Hey who shot my clay!". I won't say who shot it :evil:
No Ruger yet? For shame! As penance you need to get the 458 Lott.
After a long talk with the smith we both seem to think it was a freak round but we're waiting for the gauges so we can be certain.
That's what my money is on. I was getting ready to PM you about that, glad you posted.
Sorry to hear about your Garand. I'm sure you stripped and cleaned the gas system too. You did clean the gas system, right? :eek:
DAvid
Oh yeah I cleaned the gas system, that poor rifle was stripped so fast it could have gotten whiplash. Amazingly there wasn't any signs of rust in the tube or on the oprod. The whole rifle is going to be watched closely though to see if any rust comes back.
found out that the 30-06 ammo I had been shooting all day from the Garand wasn't non-corrosive
Dave - ouch!!! Out of interest - does headstamp give a date? Have been thinking for long time that ammo that is, let's say, post 1960 or so production should be OK.
Hope the damage not too bad anyways - sounds like could have been much worse. Hope too headspace checks on Mauser show no prob.
As for the 28G - well as far as clays are concerned - they got scared allright! :)
