Ever since I rebarreled my rifle to 30-06AI, I have only used Federal Gold Medal brass. I'm now in a gun club and shoot much more often. I've order some lighter bullet and some FMJ for casual practise. I usually shoot Nosler bullets but want to work up a varmit load. I've a lot of brass from my 30-06 days. It's from Winchester, Remington, Federal and Frontier. I tossed any strange ones. My question is how much impact does using mixed brass have? Is it really that imprtant if I'm not in competition? Is any one brand better then another?

I hate for it all to goto waste.

Thanks,
Tim

IF you are not going for 'super' accuracy and IF you are not trying to use 'burn, blast and blind' type loads, you can use them all. If I were you, I would load up some rounds of all the same load in all different cases and shoot them separately to see how much difference in group and point of impact they make in YOUR gun. Then decide. Remember that each brand will have a slighly different case volume, so stay away from top loads or develop loads in each brand separately to avoid pressure problems.

I have a Ruger 30-06 (M77) bolt gun that shows little if any group size difference between Win and Rem cases with identical loads but about 1" difference in POI at 100 yds. YOUR MILAGE MAY VARY.
