Starts in 1986 and goes through 2006, very interesting.

I hope it is accurate :)

Acera: The image comes from http://www.handgunlaw.us/ which is a site that is kept quite current so I would suspect it is indeed right.

I'd like to see the same sort of animation showing which states grant reciprocity to at least one other state.

I'm still highly annoyed that South Carolina give reciprocity to NOBODY.

That image was originally produced by http://www.gun-nuttery.com/ several years ago -- if you look back through their site you can see the history of the image.

Sure looks like www.handgunlaw.us is using the image without attribution.

The Constitution does not give you the Right to carry an animated GIF! That Right is reserved for the Militia.

Go to handgunlaw.us and click on the state that you want to see reciprocity for. Here is the Texas reciprocity map.

As you can see South Carolina does honor Texas permit holders.

pax is right, I just checked out that other site. If used without permission, very uncool of handgunlaw.us to steal that image. Here's where it came from:

    Along with the still images.

Did you guys even compare the two maps? Besides them both being maps of the US they are nothing alike. The obvious differences of Hawaii and Alaska being in different locations and Puerto Rico not even being shown on the gun-nuttery map... Look at the details on the gulf side of Louisiana or the Atlantic coast of North Carolina or Mass. How about the shape of Puget Sound and Washington?

    Totally different maps.

Gary Slider created and maintained his map for packing.org for years and he now does the same for handgun.us.

Very bad form on calling out someone on a copyright issue without even more than glancing at the map. (Almost "Low Road" if you ask me)

Since Packing.org bit the big one handgun.us is the only reliable place for info on reciprocity. We should be thanking them, not falsely accusing and excoriating them.

Compare the image at http://www.gun-nuttery.com/rtc.php with the image at http://www.handgunlaw.us/right-to-carry-history.gif

They are the same image, with AK and HI in the same place. No Puerto Rico on either map. Same color scheme. Same proportions. Same legend in the lower left corner.

I did not accuse Gary Slider or anyone else of stealing anything -- only commented that it sure looks as if handgunlaw is using the image without attribution. It's entirely possible they have permission to use the image, but it's unusual to use such an image without attribution.

It's a great resource and I'm grateful to the guys who created it. Seems like the high road involves acknowledging the creator of such great resources too.

my apologies. I didn't check the hot-linked image's address and did not see the link on Steve and Gary's site. I thought the images being compared were of the reciprocity maps and the gun-nuttery image.

I will let Steve or Gary comment on the identical animated gif.

    No worries.

As I said, it's entirely possible (I mean, likely -- these are good guys) that they had permission. It just seemed odd not to see the attribution.

The map you refer to that appears to have come from gun-nuttery, did. It is used with permission - in it's form - without attribution because [sorry, can't recall the gentleman's name] didn't want it.

As to posting hot-links to our maps - please don't do that. It uses our bandwidth without tripping bots and does not visibly link ot our site.
