Ruger SR9 / Smith & Wesson M&P magazine interchangeability

At an IDPA match not too long ago, we had a shooter using a Ruger SR9. While pasting, I picked up one of his mags so it wouldn't get stepped on and noticed that it looked identical to a Smith M&P 9 magazine. I mean, the Sturm Ruger bird logo is in the same place as the cursive S&W logo and everything. To be pessimistic, I assume they're probably identical in all aspects other than the cutout for the mag release, a la Beretta / Taurus 92s. But, one never knows.

So, anyone with both guns try it?

I'm 99.9999% positive that they are not interchangeable. Best thing you could do is go to a gun store and try swapping them.

i have never been a fan of swapping mag between guns, that is interesting and they might. maybe i am more of a traditionlist but i buy the mags that are specific for the guns that i own.

They are the first couple of times, than they get easier.

most new mags are. get a mag loader, or do it old school get the gu and a few hundrad rds. of ammo and fill the mags and shoot and they will get broke in in no time.

The SR9 comes with a mag loader.

The magazines are harder than normal to load, but as I said, they loosen up after a couple of loadings.

Good question! My Para Worthog magazines are a real bear to load and I've had them for some time now.
I expect the SR9's magazines will never be as easy to load as some, but not any harder than others.

yes, why wouldn't they? work the mags by using them ie loading rds and shooting them too easy.

I took my magazines apart, cleaned them thoroughly and looked for, but didn't find any burrs or anything like that.

I fount that, when you get to the 14th or so round, it gets really tough to push the next round in, unless you push the front of the cartridge down at the same time you push the loader down.

After abut 4 or 5 loadings, it got much easier.

Racking the slide is hard too, but again, it gets easier and about as hard as most other pistols after 150 or so rounds.

My pistol was very tight and had very close tolerances when I got it, which in my opinion is a good thing.
