I have heard that there will be no more Russian ammo imported to this country, is this true?

Trying to repeal the Second Amendment would be tough. Cutting off ammo would be easy, and LEGAL.

I doubt it. Wolf has a good thing going. They have excellent prices and offer a good (not great) product. I only keep Wolf on hand for a SHTF scenario. Note that much of Wolf's product line in terms of pistol and carbine ammunition is not only steel cased, but more importantly, the projectile too is steel with a very light copper plating to it. Get into the habit of pocketing a small magnet when you go to purchase ammunition. There is a lot of steel ammo out there. The only way to tell is with a magnet. Last year I bought some beautiful-looking 9MM Luger ammunition! This stuff looks sharp, clean, consistent, etc. I get it home, set it on my desk and one of the rounds went rolling toward the major magnet I have on my desk...all steel. I would not mind firing steel down the tube for a SHTF scenario, especially with a hard-chromed bore, but I do not use steel on a daily or target shoot basis.

Look at the premise of the rumor. What would the logic be of just banning Russian ammo? What is special about Russian ammo versus any other imported ammo that would be so significant as a law being passed that would create the ban?

I think a more likely scenario is that someboy is trying to drive up sales of the often less liked Russian ammo by, 1. creating a false reputation that the ammo is special enough in some way to be banned, and 2) for those who do like the ammo, creating a false sense of fear of dwindling supplies to spur panic buying or stockpiling.

You have to believe that if the Russian ammo ban had validity, Wolf's web site would have it mentioned, if anything, to spur sales as high as possible before the market is closed off to them. Check the web site...

and see their contact information if you want to hear from Wolf.

Rumors like this are like the "chicken gun" story that the media always recycles. I have heard this rumor since 1997. At the gun shows in Indianapolis there is a dealer who tells show attendees this every single show since '97 and he just happens to sell Wolf ammo (this is akin to the "Closed Magazine in the Mini-14" that the gun dealers were scamming people with during the early '90s).

What is happening is that someone perhaps on the fringes of the gun culture or someone who is not paying attention got wind of Clinton's 1996 VRA (Voluntary Restraint of Trade Agreement) with Russia (Clinton gave the Russians an s-load of gold in exchange for them stopping exports of most guns to the USA) and now believes this applies to all things related to Russian firearms.

In the gun culture dealers, 1. will play on gun owners' fear and loathing (heck, yet another ban, well, I better buy), 2. have no idea what they are talking about.

Some people just like bad news. How many gun shows have you heard "well, last year for gun shows" or "Congress just banned _________" or "No more Russian ammo"? Some people enjoy spreading bad news, whether it is correct or not.

    "That gun is highly accurate."

"Those aren't in the catalogue anymore."

    "Congress just banned that."

"Ruger's gonna close the magazine on the Mini-14."

"Selling LE marked Colt ARs (in 2005) is highly illegal."

"Black Hills went out of business, no more ammo that this is gone."

    "You can't do _________ or ____________."

"Nope, Russian ammo is highly illegal now."

and on and on it goes.:D

jp, you should always buy like whatever you want will be illegal tomorrow. However, do not believe the gun dealers.

Lots of Wolf ammo has a bullet with a mild steel jacket that's copper-plated; the copper is the part that actually bears on the bore.

A lot of their newer stuff, and the Wolf Gold, has standard copper-alloy bullet jackets, though the cartridge cases of some(like their .30 Carbine) are steel.

Sounds like rumor mongering to justify increases in prices.

Ammo exports are a huge cash cow for Russia. Why they would cut their own noses off?

And why would they care about our RKBA? That's just cold war paranoia. The foreigners who want to take our guns are our alleged "allies" in Western Europe.

Cosmo, because back in April of '96 Russia needed gold immediately and Clinton had a bunch of our gold in Fort Knox, soooo, Clinton traded gold to get Russia to cut off its nose and stop exporting to the USA via the VRA.

Hillary will do the same with other countries.

    Of course:

'They won't let Norinco steel core in the country anymore'

    wasn't a rumor.

We knew that was coming and could have been avoided. We begged them not to make that pistol, but those no good, in-breed :cuss: decided to make it anyway.

I'm so tired of this, it makes me sick. It's like burning the cart if it throws a wheel. You don't blame the gun maker, you blame the tyranical government that put this stupid rule out there. How many cops have been killed by "Cop Killer" bullets ripping through their vests like a knife through hot butter, making the blood run in the streets, and turning LA into the OK corral? You buy into the anti's argument when you perpetuate this sort of stuff.
