I would appreciate if anybody can help (death in family) with info (date made, approx value, etc) on this:

    Model No. 686

    Barrel 6
    Fin. S
    Stock SB
    Features RR

    Serial No. AYD8503

Hi Homers, we'll see if we can help. Sorry for the method of acquisition.

Let's assume like most ss guns the metal finish is 99% and the gun works with no problems. Let's also assume it has the original SB checkered target grips in good shape. If the target stocks are missing, deduct $40 or $50 from the prices below.

In that case, it's likely worth $425 to $475 right now I would estimate. 4" guns tend to do about $50 better, and 2.5" ones $50 even better still or more. AYD would be about 1987 - guesstimate from memory.

Based on the way you presented it, it also sounds like you have the original box. If that is the case, add $25 to $50 to the estimates above for a range of $475 to $500.

These would be the prices you get to an informed buyer via a gun forum classified or perhaps GunBroker. Trade-in or consignment sale prices that you will realize will be 20 to 40% or more lower, usually.
