Yes I agree that this is too much handgun for defense but it does address something some people like to say over and over again. No handgun has enough power to do what a rifle does because it cannot get the velocity.

I am thinking with a fast bullet this is going to behave like a rifle when it hits the target.

I suppose if you had one sidearm in big animal country, Moose and Big Bear you could load it to act like rifle ammo if it needs to get pressed into service as a defense gun.

I for one would not want to use it in that capacity.

Dude, you don't need 45 Colt +P's for defense against people. Those like your original load are intended for hunting. Just get some regular old 45 Colt HP's or 44 Spl's for defense use. Most 44 mags are too powerful too. For hiking and hunting, your choice is fine. The 460 is not my first choice for a defensive handgun, but you use what you have. I hope you shoot with your parents or older friends. Be Safe. Wear eye and ear protection. Good luck.

envonge: Your first choice in ammo would be appropriate if you were being attacked by low-flying aircraft. Your second choice is a lot better.....
