    Try this for instructions.

Myself? I've tried to get the wood handguard off the gas tube assy on several of my SKS's and I've never got one to come off without destroying it. From my experience, the wood just winds up cracking and splitting about half way thru the pounding and at that point I just admit defeat and dremel the damn rivet head off. At this point, I generally run a DC Engineering aftermarket gas tube with integral perf metal handguard (#42) and call it a day.

Just to add to the list of those mentally preparing you to buy another gas tube/handguard assembly. I've put synthetic stocks on two of my SKS rifles (both Russians). Success on the first. But on the second, there was no way that original gas tube would/could/did fit in the new synthetic handguard. I lost some knuckle skin, a lot of time, and reacquainted myself with a lot of curse words I thought I'd forgotten trying to get the original gas tube to work. Fortunately there are folks who sell new gas tubes already stuck into black Zytel handguards. Had to buy one for the second Russian SKS. They match and work perfectly by the way.

    Thanks guys.

I am putting a Grey Ram-line Sporter stock on my SKS sometime in the next fewmonths, becvause its just to ugly like it is now.

Iv seen Some of the DC tubes on E-bay, but eveoyone wants 60+ bucks for them. thats almost as much as i paid for the whole gun to begin with ($75 back in the early 90's)

Should have been more carefull :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

When I put the folding stock on my SKS, it took me a good 45 minutes to whack that little rivet out.. I took a while trying to get something to work to replace it, but then noticed that as long as you don't flip up the gas-tube take down lever, you really don't need one in there...

PS, I don't use the magazines anymore... I put the 10rd internal back in.
