socom 16 muzzle devices

so what is involved in changing these out?

say i wanted to put a FSC or vortex or a straight brake on a socom16...

also, what does the smith enterprise kit do? i notice the threads are slightly different so i take it they're not compatible.

a socom 16 already comes with parts that look just like that.

is its sole function just to allow you to put a vortex on there?

The SEI kit allows you to use a standard USGI front sight.
The SEI kit allows you to use a DC Vortex flash eliminator.
The SEI kit allows you to use a Kali legal DC Compensator.
Both the DC Vortex and Kali Comp allow you to use a DC sound suppressor.

None of this is possible with the factory SOCOM muzzle device.

I read somewhere that muzzle brake was part of the SOCOM 16 design to reduce the tremendous muzzle climb when firing a short-barrelled M1A. I don't know if flash suppressor will be conducive to this system...?

Keep in mind that the SOCOM 16 brake is also a gas regulator (of sorts). It keeps sufficient pressure on the gas port to ensure proper function. I'm not sure I'd want to mess with it.

Yeah, the SOCOM 16/II series of short-barrel M1A have a re-designed gas system in comparison to the regular M1A and M1A scouts. I have seen SEI kit being used for M1A scouts but not for SOCOMs. SOCOM muzzle brake set-up is perfectly functional as is. Are you thinking about attaching a suppressor to your SOCOM?

SEI made this even better. The expansion chamber is enhanced for optimum performance
and the special gas plug corrects gas volume issues that Springfield did/could not address.

The kit has been tested with and without a sound suppressor and it works great.

For those who don't know M14's, SEI is pretty much THE premier shop for all things M14. They do much of the upgrading of military M14s to make them shoot out to 1000 yds and such. They have a clip showing the effectiveness of their flash suppressor compared to the USGI one it is pretty amazing and their compensators are supposed to be excellent also. SEI's stuff is top notch and they stand behind their product.
