Nice, mine was shorter, but similar. :)

I live 14 miles from C'dale, and before today shopped there often, but not anymore.

Next time he's up for re-election, if he is opposed, PM me and I'll make good on my word.

If he is really this uninformed on the topic, he should just sit down and be silent.

"Do we want crazies out there with any type of guns?" he asked, "Do we want anybody to be able to go out to a gun show and purchase some automatic weapon like that and then they just turn around and go to a grade school and slaughter a bunch of innocent little children?"

That's rather silly. Letter sent as well.. though it wasn't as lengthy as yours Trent. :)

The Bloomberg group is badly named. Its clear but unofficial agenda is to make all privately held guns illegal, so its name should be "Mayors Against Private Ownership of Guns."

But how many mayors would dare join a group with that name?

Your mayor is an idiot or lying, or both. Carbondale is close enough to Ft. Campbell he should know the difference between "some automatic weapon", a machine gun, and a semiautomatic rifle. He also should know that the last time something like Sandy Hook happened was 20 years ago so we're not likely to see another crazy attack one of the nearly 100,000 grade schools in our country again for a while. It isn't like because the good mayor wet the bed once that he's going to do it every week, is it, so why does he think something that occurs once every 20 years or so will happen every day he wakes up afraid of an inanimate object?

He was back on the TV news tonight, repeating that same line about "automatic weapons being bought at gun shows"

Some enterprising politicians here in Dallas of all places are floating the same idea. I'm sure all the money they've been raking in from these things just caused a lapse of sanity, though.

I would call out how stupid this statement is, and everything wrong with it, but then again, my mayor was refusing to allow aerial mosquito spraying this last West Nile season because "they spray above the trees, and there's no mosquitoes there" :banghead:

But that may be cause for him to buy himself a pair of rubber pants :D

I'm having trouble finding where the outlets have comment ability. How do we call him a liar in public so that everyone else sees it?

not surprised. Carbondale is like the Hippie mecca of illinois. SIUC has a lot to do with that.

For sure, although my local FFL that does transfers for me, works at SIUC. :)

Only been an FFL for a couple of years, nice guy, charges a flat $20.00 for any tranfer, not matter what the gun is.

Predictably, perhaps, I have not received a response at this time to my e-mail to the mayor. :)
