I am probably going to make the plunge in the next few days. Would like to hear from current and past owners. Any known issues I need to be aware of? Certain features that are must have?

Share your wisdom and experience. Thanks bevr!

We just did a long thread on SW1911. They are great. My advice is to get the gun with the light rail. You'll be glad you did!:)

    light rail?

Looked like it might be hard to find a good holster. I don't really like the looks of a 1911 with a rail but if you can convince me the function is worth it I will consider it as they have one in stock.

    Thanks keep em coming!

I have a Scandium Commander that I absolutely love. It is far and away my favorite of 5 1911's. I use it as my primary carry gun. It has been absolutely reliable and the light weight is GREAT for carry. I also had it Bobtailed which turned out beautifully and makes the gun easier to conceal than my Kimber Ultra Carry II, a 3" 1911. You can see the pistol at www.ontargetcgw.com, select "1911 Gallery" and then "Smith & Wesson Bobtail." I couldn't be happier with a pistol.

    Same as the guy above!

I love my SW Scandium. Its hard to beat 28oz empty, and is a reliable tack driver!

Go ahead, make your day! If you are buying for concealed carry, go with the PD commander size, weighs in around 28 oz empty, so it is easy on the hip. but from all I have read from the other owners ( I have the Sc,same as PD but last years model) any of the S&W 1911 guns are a no brainer. And contact uncle Lou Alessi for your leather or Gary Brommeland, both make some fine CCW holsters, and uncle Lou's belts, well just ask anyone who has ever worn one....Hey, the sooner you order, the sooner you can scratch that itch.....good luck...

Well, mine is the bottom feeder...cause I like it that way. Flawless through 1000 round mix of 185 gr. JHP and 230 gr. FMJ.

I'd get another Smith 1911 in a heartbeat.

As a duck and resident of duck city, I'll add that I own four S&W 1911s and one has the rail. Every one is outstanding and the only issue I have had has been a loose, rattly grip safety and a poor barrel crown which looked like something done by either a beaver or other resident of the Corvallis area! Seriouslly, they are probably the best value in the 1911 market and I would not hesitate to buy another. The problems I mentioned were taken care of by Smith and I had the gun back within 8 days! The factory service is the best in the biz! Go for it as you will regret it if you don't and as far as holsters gor for the rail model, I had no problems finding good quality IWB and OWB's.

    thanks and nice photos

I am wanting a full sized pistol because I am mostly a range shooter that might one day get into idpa or something. For carry I think I would go with one of the tiny mite wheel guns out these days or just use my bersa. ( I know it is under powered yadda yadda yadda )

I am glad I am choosing S&W over other brands and feel confident in my decision. I want one of them beauties for my self.

What is the Black finish? Is it durable?

Thanks guys keep the info and pics coming! By this time tomorrow, I will either be in surgery or fondlling my new gun.

    The finish on mine...

I would not call it durable...

It's been in and out of both leather holsters and a Kydex with no noticeable wear... But, I stupidly (so stupidly) tried to use a little Flitz on the slide (why, oh why???) and definitely removed some of the finish. Fortunately it doesn't seem to be not worn off enough to make it vulnerable to ????, but it did wear off with only the lightest of rubbing with Flitz. Stupid me.

That said, this is a carry gun and I have no intention of trying to keep it looking brand new. My photos of it are all pre-stupid me for using Flitz on the barrel. :banghead:

Next, My S&W shoots to point of aim when held at the 6 o'clock position.
Be careful with answers from those webfooters, while it seems both ducks and Beavers can own them, it takes a Beaver to show them how to shoot them...

I don't know about that but I got to hand it to the Beavers for using their cheerleaders to keep the grass cut at Clam Dip stadium:D .

Ive had mine for 4 years know and i love it
I installed hogue rubber wraparound grips
and easily set the trigger screw for overtravel
My first pistol shoot ever i took 10 place of 30 shooter
I owe that to my sw1911
    I carry it in a ps6 from merniklesholster.com

    Ahh Ducks n Beavers...

As an Oregonian currently in Tennessee I must say I've missed OU/OSU rivalry (oh, and the coffee).
Everywhere here is this omnipresent flourecent orange color. Nothing against the Vol's (after last season they don't need anything else against 'em) but did the team color have to be road construction/creamsicle orange?~Nathan
P.S. an S&W 1911 was the first 1911 I ever shot, and still my favorite.

    ok so I bought it

Now I must apologize for all the crap I talked on 1911's. This S&W is amazing! Worth every penny! Seen my share of crap 1911's but this ain't one. If you are on the fence about one just jump on over you won't be sorry!

Thanks for all the info! this gun freaking rocks! Now I just have to sell a kidney and it will be paid for...
