The Bell .30 Carbine

    I'd heard of the Carbine trials which resulted in adoption of the M1 Carbine.
    This is one of the more unusual entries.
    The Breechface is stationary and the Barrel is blown forward to eject the empty and cycle the action. In this way they were able to avoid the very heavy bolt that a high pressure cartridge would require.

    I'm not altogether sure that the round the Bell was chambered for was the .30 Carbine, some entries used proprietary cartridges.

    If anyone knows of similar oddball weapons add them to the thread please.
