Can we all agree that the ubiquitous references to "tragic boating accidents" is getting really old? If someone invites people to post about their collections and for whatever reason you don't want to admit to owning any guns, just don't post! Come on, really. It was funny the first thousand times. Now it's just annoying.

What is funny is that the first time I heard that joke, I believed it. Now, the joke is so common that if you say the joke, it's another way of saying, "Screw you for asking me anything about my guns." Yeah, it's not funny anymore.

I can see your point, if you don't want to admit to the number/type of your weapons, then don't post. Sure. But on the other hand, why do you want to know what I have? So you can measure your collection against mine? As I see it, the "boating" thing is a polite way to to tell someone that they have no business asking that question. And if your "can't contribute, don't post" idea actually worked on here, we wouldn't have necro-threads, or threads 6 pages long when the OP's question was answered on page 2, but everyone else felt they had to chime in. I don't like the term "tacticool" but can't get all frustrated about it, that's just how it is here.

If you feel the need to post about your boating accident, then you weren't the target of the question anyway. Yeah, it gets annoying having to to wade through two dozen boating accidents in any gun collection thread.

First time I heard it I thought the poster was serious. After a few I realized it was just another internet meme. Maybe it's just me but I don't take the expression the same way the OP and others seem to. I've never thought of it as "Don't ask about my guns!", rather, "I'd love to tell you but the Brady Campaign probably has someone monitoring this thread as we type making a list of who owns what, so if they ever pass gun confiscation laws they know whose door to knock on and I don't want them to know what I have." kinda thing. I just take it as a knock on antis and maybe a bit of paranoia.

As for me, I'm afraid I sold most of my guns months ago officer. And no unfortunately I don't have any receipts of the sale or any way to contact the new owner. Good luck and have a nice day. :neener:

Yes. However, I don't have a problem with it as long as the person doesn't make a remark that's not in the spirit of the post. IMO a jocular post every now and then is welcome. Comments like, "It's my business and nobody elses" fall under the category of why even bother posting anything at all?. What annoys me more are those that find it necessary to scold or chastise others for what they feel is improper syntax, grammer, spelling or some such thing.

All that said, we need to remind ourselves that in a forum we don't get to pick and choose the character and personality of those who participate in any given thread. If we did, I suppose it might get boring over time. Maybe not.

Loosing all my firearms wasnt funny at all ! Damn boat, don't mention it anymore please !

Bingo. The "boating accident" answer many be annoying, but then again, so is the question. Ask a stupid question, get a stupid answer.

You're right. I have a Facebook account where I get to pick and choose the characters that may interact with me. It's boring. Everybody is polite and predictable. However, I don't go to Facebook for "interesting" discussions, but rather just for sharing pics with friends. So, Facebook has it's place.

It's funny how many THR members have boats.

Walkalong, I'd wager there are more boat-owners on THR than there are firearm-owners.

I can see the writing on the wall. You'll have to pass a NICS (National Instant Crappy Boating Check System) background check to buy your next firearm along with the current NICS (National Instant Criminal Background Check System) background check.

Guns and alcohol don't mix. Looks like water and guns don't mix either.
