I'm not sure if this belongs in general (business reasons) or the legal forum but it's very difficult to find 00 buck in Indiana. Walmart, Dicks Sporting Goods, Gander Mountain, etc... I've been to 5 sporting goods stores this week and nobody carries 00 buck.

Does anyone know why? I thought 00 buck was a staple of shotgun shells.

My Wal Mart had it the last time I checked; and the gun shops I go to always have it. Maybe the shortage is confined to Indianapolis.

I moved to Indiana a few months ago and I have noticed that buckshot isn't exactly all over the place. Slugs, on the other hand, are everywhere, especially now that deer gun season is here. Being from Oklahoma, I have never seen so many different deer slugs on one shelf.

#1 Buck works well too. Nearly twice the pellet count and negligible size difference.

You should be able to buy 00 Buck at a firearms shop. Although if it's not legal for hunting, it might be hard to find there too.

Midway and Grafs & Son sells it online, Cabela's . . .

try ammunition to go. i just got 150 rounds federal 2 3/4" 00 with the flight control wad for $108 delivered.:D

The last two times I've been in, my local gunstore (well, the one that I care to visit) had no #1, and only Sellier & Bellot 00 buck. I bought the S&B and tried it out at the range and it didn't cycle reliably, so I wanted to look for something else. I went to Dick's yesterday and they had one (just one!) box of 3 1/2" 00buck (too large for my 870), two boxes of 000 buck, and nothing else. I left. I guess I'm going to have to bite the bullet (ha ha) and place an online order, exorbitant shipping prices included ... :(

Well, since 00 isn't legal for hunting the demand isn't that great. Stores tend not to carry products in inventory that don't have a quick turn around.

The gun shop at Rensselaer Indiana carries the round as well as the 'mom and pop' store east of Monon. Perhaps your problem is you are looking in the larger outlets that cater to the high volume niche rather than the smaller specialized shops. When all else fails go to Plainfield to Don's guns. It's overpriced but he claims it's not the money he just loves to sell guns.

Is there a Dunham's Sporting Goods in Indy? They had some 2-3/4" Hornady TAP 00 the last time I visited the Richmond, IN store.

The Walmart in Brownsburg had some on sale a few weeks ago.

When all else fails go to Plainfield to Don's guns. It's overpriced but he claims it's not the money he just loves to sell guns.
There is a "Bobs Guns" in Plainfield, I don't think Don has a shop there. heh-heh-heh :neener:(that was my attempt at Don's laugh from his commercials back in the day)

EDIT*
There is a new shop on the South side of Rockville Rd. East of Dan Jones rd.
Haven't made it in yet. Frontier Guns I think.

Dick's ran an ad a few weeks ago with 00 buck or foster slugs, $0.98/box after rebate and coupon. They were sold out the day of the ad and I got a rain check.

Pretty much a gun show proposition here in Indianapolis but some of the small gun shops carry it as well. Not event he big places like Gander sell much 00 buck...although I have bought some there.

It's because in Indiana you can't hunt (deer) with Buckshot, only slugs. Only practical purpose for it then is HD - which tends to not sell enough rounds to make it worth while to a lot of people.
I would suggest just ordering online. You're going to have a hard time finding it.

My local (Mentor, OH) Gander Mountian stocks A LOT of different buckshot rounds, although Ohio is also a 'slug only' deer hunting state.

(Yeha, about 6-7 hours from Indy, but you never know where you might find stuff you need).

MO doesn't allow hunting deer with 00 Buck, so I don't see much on the shelf.

Home defense works better with #4 to #6, less overpenetration of sheetrock walls, and more likely a hit at longer ranges.

It's like the 16 gauge. Just not enough sales, although it still has a place.

Bought some at Dick's in Plainfield about a year ago, and last time I checked, they had it at Wal-Mart in Martinsville. You may have to leave the "city" to find it.
