The pistols of 'Gangs of New York?'

    I just saw the DVD "Gangs of New York" this weekend and was fascinated by the single shot cartridge loaded pistol the police used and the various muzzle loaders the civilians used. Anybody have any ideas what they were?

    In the one part of the movie I remember as being gun related I seem to recall a small Colt revolver was in evidence.
    Which makes sense as the CW was underway and the small Colts had been around for a while.

    Yes, I recall that one. But I was wondering about the single shot pistols with an old style hammer. At first I thought the cop was carrying a muzzle loader, but then when he was running through the church he dropped a cartridge and reloaded.

    I saw Gangs of New York, too. I remember the scene where the Irish assassin tried to shoot Bill the Butcher. It looked like he had a .36 caliber blackpowder revolver ( Colt Navy?) Don't remember the church scene.
