"And for the support of this declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of devine providence, we mutually pledge to each other our lives our fortunes and our sacred honor."

All 56 who signed suffered in the years to come. Some lost their fortune, some lost all they had to give, their lives. None, however gave up their sacred honor. To them, personal honor and freedom were worth more than life itself.

Each one expected, anticipated April 19th. That day, and in early morning the British Column advanced up Concord Road - Intent on seizing a Colonial Armory. The prize to be captured were stores of arms, gun powder, ball and shot. The British mission was to disarm the local population, for without stores of arms, powder and ball the people would be unable to resist, easy to control, easy to enslave, to be dragged off in chains and hanged.

The prize sought by the British would not be realized, for on that road they were met by men of purpose and with a strong resolve to be a free people. Well trained marksmen with rifles, who by force of arms would stop and then rout the British troops, turning them into a fleeing mob trying to escape the riflemen. Each rifle being accurately fired at a rate of three rounds per minute. And so, it went for years to come until there arose a free people with a new country.

National honor, what is it? It is our legacy, passed to us by those brave men and women who founded the country, along with a Constitution to protect us and the country from all who would destroy it! All across this great nation people like you and I, patriots can do no less than to honor the founders by using the laws which protect us and the country, to drive out all who would destroy the nation and take our freedom. So in their honor we the people pledge to use the laws of the land to prevent being disarmed, an armed populace being necessary to keep the country safe and free.
