I'm about to send off my .454 Casull SRH cylinder off to TK Custom so I can get it machined to work with .45 ACP with full moonclips and of course .454/.45 Colt moonclips. It occurs to me that there could possibly be some risk with shooting the 'hotter' .454 rounds. I won't buy Hornady XTP anymore, but for instance I got a bunch of them that were so hot that they would expand and stick in the cylinder.

Anyone had this conversion done? Any engineering experts out there to reassure me that getting a little ring cut in the back-face in the cylinder doesn't affect it's overall strength?

Update:

Just sent it off today. Had some doubts about the post office regs, but turns out shipping just a cylinder assembly is fine. It's not a 'firearm' unless you are sending the frame I guess.

Still curious to know if anyone has had this done, and if so what a good .45 ACP 'range round' would be that works with the moonclips well.

Maybe it's just me but the whole idea of shooting .45 ACP AND .454 Casull from the same gun seems to be asking a bit much from the platform. If I owned a .454 Casull then that is all I would ever shoot in it. There's plenty of 625 Smiths floating around. I would not cut on a .454 Casull cylinder. Any.
