(TN)Police shot by 30-30 Shotgun!!!

Back in '94, I took a tour of Metro's recovered weapons locker. Thousands of weapons, mostly crap, but some excellent ones as well: a Walther PPK, a Delta Elite, and an Uzi carbine. All were destined for the scrap heap.

I almost cried on my way out.

Once a good gun turns bad and starts committing crimes, it never ever returns to its honest ways guys, doncha know that?
Inanimate objects are bad for that. However, convicted muggers, bank robbers, child molesters, rapists and murderers can be re-habilitated in cell block C and deserve a second chance in society.

I, for one, am happy they crushed those evil guns and let these ppl out of prison.

To be fair...

the 30-30 shotgun was a transcript error. Click on the link, then click on the camera icon and the actual story can be heard. Melissa Penry states that it was a 30-30 rifle used.

Other than that the story makes me angry.

"...Police shot by 30-30 Shotgun..." No, he wasn't. Inanimate objects can't do anything without human intervention..

Since when are Glocks, Ruger P-series, S&W Revolvers, and 10-22's illegal? Maybe the way they were used was illegal, but last I checked those guns are still legal.

Did any of you check out the "If you were a millionaire....?" thread? Here's where I'd go into action if I had the money.

Form a bogus 'grass roots citizen's' group (ala MMM) and invite the good chief to receive an award (on behalf of the department, of course) for this outstanding work. Invite the press, mayor, governor, everybody. Hold it on the steps of city hall or some other impressive venue. Make a BIG deal out of it. Make a banner (size XXL!) with his idiotic statement on it to hang overhead.

"These guns will no longer be on the street commiting crimes in Nashville or anywhere else for that matter. It's wonderful."

Have some sample guns present. Present the award with great pomp and splendour. Interveiw the chief. Play dumb.

"Well, chief, what crime did THIS rifle commit?"

Cheif tells the shocking story of how it was found in the possession of some lowlife doing something bad.

Play dumb. "Yes, that's interesting, and I'm glad you arrested that person, but... Is he still in jail, by the way?" Wait for answer. (If the answer is NO, trust me, you'll come back to that point!)

"Well, that's interesting, but as I was saying, what crime did THIS RIFLE commit?"

Play it dumb, but keep asking the question until he admits the rifle didn't do anything. Then, still playing the innocent dumb role, start asking those embarrassing questions about why he's blaming the gun, when he himself said it was the criminal who committed the crime.

The key to this is to NEVER get antagonsitic. And NEVER spout the pro-gun line. Make HIM tell the truth with your innocent questions.

Right out there in front of everyone.

"So, you're saying that the person who actually committed the crime is back out on the streets, but you've got this inanimate object in custody instead? Why is that? Can you tell us how that will reduce crime?"

Then maybe, since you had obviously been misled, withdraw the award. After all, it turns out they didn't do ANYTHING to reduce crime.

Ah, keep dreaming...
