I took my little sister to the indoor range last weekend.:D We shot .22 std target 50 foot. Had a blast and she shot my Ruger MK II 10" for the first time. WOW!! She shot 8X out of 10 at least three times in 100 rounds.:D She shot about twice my score.:banghead::banghead: I was embarrassed at first as this was her first time with a .22 pistol. Then I got to thinking-------I must be a really good teacher.:D:rolleyes: Too embarrassed to save my targets but she took her good ones home. She called this morning at 4:30 AM and wants to do it again today.:D:D Gotta go!!!

I think we have all been there..... take a girl shooting for the first time and she shoots better than you.....with NON-family members it is a great way to lose an interesting bet.

I may have to use that one on my wife.;) Get her to the range, and ... well you get the picture.

Anyway, good job. I wish it had worked that way with my sister. But, she was too stubborn to give it an honest try when I took her and her whole family out. Her kids loved it, and so did me x brother in law. But, all she would do was pull the trigger a few times and say, "So." Then she went to the truck and watched us have fun all morning.

Indeed! You just have to hope she's good enough a sport not to rub it in! :p

It's been my experience that it's hard to get a gal out to the range, but that they always do well, usually better than they expected to.

I do believe that lightning strikes twice on occasion!!:what: We went again yesterday and as she shot all her groups got tighter.:) I need to sign her up for our postal league. I guess that she got that natural gunfighters grace that our maternal grandfather had.:D IMHO a 35 yo that has not tried competitive shooting with a pistol and is that good needs to be encouraged. I will do my best!! She also wants to get her best friend whom she says claims to be a good shot to join us soon. I cant wait--with camera I might add.:D

    Will keep all informed:D

    Good for you.:)
We need all the new shooters we can get.
Keep encouraging her and be proud if she does shoot better that you.
It was a good day of shooting whenever my Wife could out-shoot me.:)

The last five people I taught to shoot were young girls and senior ladies.
Before they shoot I tell them, "It's probable that within a couple days you will be shooting better than a lot of men that have been shooting for years".

This girl was amazing. She had never before touched a gun. In about an hour she went from standing in place shooting a Ruger 22/45, to shooting a 3 inch S&W J Frame while moving right and left and back-peddling. With almost all the shots COM.

My 30 YO Liberal Democrat daughter floored me a few months ago and asked to go shooting with me. I set her up with my old bolt Remington 22, a box of ammo, and gave her a rundown on range safety and shooting fundamentals. She proceeded to pound the center out of the target, she even took pics with her cell phone and put them on her Facebook page.
There was an older-than-me gentleman at at the range and he remarked that girls were easier to teach than boys, the girls come in willing to listen and don't have anything to prove.

Just got the range report back from my stepdad that he took my mom to the range with her new .380 LCP and she shot better than him, having only shot a handgun once or twice before. So yes, it seems to be quite the case that first-time shooters can outshoot you when you don't expect it. I guess the best thing to do is just expect it.

Back to the range on Sunday with the GF for the Cowboy Fast Draw event. After the event I invited one of the "Cowgirls" who is also on the FD with us to "Shoot some real lead". She had never shot a pistol "for real" before only wax bullets. Started off with my 45LC and there was a BIG GRIN after the first 6 in the bull. On to the .22 MK II then the 357 with 38 SPL then full house 357. As the last fun it was the 45-70 single shot with mild trailboss loads.:D Two hours later she wants to be included when I go to the range as often as she can, wants to learn how to reload, and wants help picking out a 357 of her own! :what:What have I started.

I took my friend Kellie to the range for fun. She went from holding the Tok "gangsta style" :scrutiny: to hitting the target better than I did in one session. She then took my buddy Scot's .44 magnum(lonnnng barrel) and blew us both away with her precision!
I call her Kellie Oakley now!
She is great with either an automatic or revolver, shooting the Tok, the .44 and another friend's Taurus in .40, loves shooting my 10/22 with the scope and even liked shooting the Mauser- although it hurt her shoulder! She is about 5'3" and must weigh in at 110 pounds soaking wet, so the Mauser was a bit much for her!

Oh, and she shoots in HEELS!

All I can say is girls and guns - what a combo!

Girls tend to better listed to advice and to concentrate better.
My ten year old daughter easily outshoots her elder brothers and me with our Walther air rifle (9.5 lbs).
Her 10 metres 3-shot groups usually just form one ragged hole.
Now our official club instructor is nagging me to get her enlisted in official target competion.

Getting your children to shoot is a great way though to convert the unwilling wife, she might not like firearms but she shure as hell will support her little girl!

Even the most bullheaded, insensitive man tends to soften their gender bias after being shown you can hit the x ring consistently @ 50 yards.

I've also noticed that men tend to keep their nasty sex-based comments to themselves after seeing a silhouette target take four 32-20 ball to the heart, three to the head and two to the groin. The speed of conversion of an aggressive man to a polite and reasonable man is directly proportional to the size of the hole at the end of the barrel.

I am a member of a women's shooting group and it is not unusual to see our women outshoot the men when we go to the range. In fact, so many of our members are such good shots that the competitive bug has bitten them, so we now participate in the NRA Women On Target Postals. This would be a GREAT way for your sister to start shooting competitively - without having to travel too far.

Go to the NRA website and look up the women's programs section. There is a catagory there for the postal rules and registration that you can print off for her. You might also consider getting her some information on the NRA Qualification Programs. Those are a wonderful way for her to improve her shooting scores!

By the way, have her go to our shooting group's website at www.Divawow.org. We have groups forming across the US, and some in other countries and we always welcome new members!

Well Frog, consider yourself lucky to have a sister that enjoys shooting and is good at it.

Next, consider yourself very, very, very lucky if she wants to bring her girlfriends along with you and her!

I would rather teach a girl/woman to shoot any day. There's no testosterone to get in the way.

When I first started teaching my (future) Wife to shoot, I told her, "If you ever beat me in any kind of shooting contest I will give you the gun you used and I will have a trophy made for you.

One of the proudest days of my life the day I gave Her that trophy and gun.:)
