traveling to vegas legal question

I am planning on going to Vegas for two days in january and was checking usacarry.com and learned my ky carry permit doesn't have reciprocity in Nevada. Although I can't pack while I'm there I was wanting to bring at least a shotgun and possibly a handgun too but couldn't find laws concerning anything besides ccw. What I want to know is if it is still legal to have the shotgun in my vehicle while driving to my hotel,etc... as well as taking it into the hotel in a duffel bag. I imagine the shotgun is okay but I'd also like to know about the handgun and whether or not that would be okay to have in my car while driving around. If anyone can fill me in or better yet has a link to some of the regulations I'd appreciate it. Merry Christmas

Clark County, City of Las Vegas, City of North Las Vegas, City of Henderson, and Boulder City all have different municipal firearm ordinances. You can probably search each city's web site and find them. I found Clark County's ordinance fairly easily.

The Nevada Attorney General has a staff in Carson City that keeps track of all the municipal gun laws in the state. Call them and ask for a run down. That will be more reliable information than you can get from some guy on an internet gun forum like this.

Be advised that a gun in the car (even completely unloaded!) can bring you immense trouble in Boulder City and in North Las Vegas.

In ******* clark county you have to register your guns with police after 24 hours of arrival. "Just tell them you jut got there no matter when they ask". Also in Nevada your car is an extension of your home so all the same rights you have to guns in your personal home pertain to your car as well. They have to have a warrant to search it unless your dumb enough to say "yes" if they ask. Don't let them confiscate anything from you!! they can't if your stuff is legal anyway. We have a lot of ******* Kalifonians living and working out here, that includes the cops too. Sometimes they think they are still in the P.R C. and forget they are in the United States. You may be called upon to remind the cop in question they are not in California and only Nevadan gun laws apply. Don't be shy about aether, if they admit to being from the P.R.C. then they have no right to talk down to you for being a gun owner from another state.

I lived in NV and loved it. That there was a free state and people had rights, unlike here. But then again, anywhere is pretty much freer than here except for NY city and San Francisco.

Open carry is a state wide "RIGHT" that is part of out states constitution!!! I wouldn't doubt those Nazis in Clark County would find a way to charge you for something guaranteed by the state constitution. No county can overide laws and, rights written in to the "STATES" constitution, that's written next to the proclamation about open carry.

No.. There is no permit for open carry. Open carry is allowed throughout the state. However you will get stopped and harrassed in Clark Co/AKA Vegas. Can't go around scaring the tourists now can you. Go away from Vegas to other parts of the state and you won't get a second look from most people.

Nevada issues non-resident permits. Theyre good for 3 years. Nevada is also shall issue so there is no political games to getting a permit. If you fit the requirements they will issue the permit. Normal paperwork time is currently around 120 days.

We just had a thread on this. Lotsa bad info in this one.

All the old municipal ordinances (NLV, Boulder City) were invalidated by the state legislature in 2007. I have heard that some cops in those jurisdictions have yet to acknowledge this reality, but it is the reality. As long as you're legal to have the handgun at all, you may keep it in your car, loaded, open or concealed (you may not have the gun concealed on your person, even in your car, absent a valid CCW, but glove box, under the seat etc. is fine). Unless you know someone who lives there, I can't imagine why you'd go to NLV, but if you want to visit Hoover Dam (which is well worth a trip) you'll have to pass through Boulder City. The worst a cop could do, though, is hassle you, because car carry is perfectly legal.

You may not have a loaded long gun in your car in Nevada - fish & game thing.

Open carry is technically legal in NV, but it's by no means common here in Vegas. I cannot remember the last time I saw anyone doing it. Unless you're eager to be a test case (and to investigate the mysteries of the Clark County Detention Center), do not open carry in or around the casinos. I would expect to meet some police officers, if open carrying anywhere in urban Clark County.

It is perfectly legal to take a gun into a casino/hotel. (Again though, if you advertise it it's likely to become un-legal in a hurry. I'd leave the shotgun case with the "Kill 'em all" and "Peace through Superior Firepower" stickers at home.) It may violate the property's policies; I don't know anything about that. There are no conspicuous "no gunzzz" signs at any property I've been to. (Mandalay Bay, the Tropicana, and the Riviera have hosted gun shows.) Leaving a gun in a hotel room is no better an idea in Vegas, than it is anywhere else.

Nevada is very gun-friendly, but Bugsy Siegal and Tony Spilotro are long dead. Don't wave the things around. If you don't cause any trouble, your guns won't cause you any.
