I've been recently struck with the idea of getting a shotgun to throw in the trunk of my commuter car. while I have a number of 12 gauges, I've always liked the Remmington 870, and I would love an excuse to get one.
Here's the thing, I like excessive guns.
I like the idea of getting an 870 Super magnum express, the 3.5 inch cartridge just gives me the warm fuzzys.
I don't need a goose gun, so an 18 or 20 inch barrel would be plenty, its going to be a close quarters combat gun.
The only aftermarket shotgun stock that I've ever had a preference for is the 'law enforcement only' all metal topfolding stock that remmington made many years ago for the 870 police.
for a forend, its gonna be a surefire, I don't know the difference between the modles, but whatever is the coolest.
The gun won't be seeing much in the way of maintenence, It will never leave the trunk, so the marine finish is perfect for me...
So the plan is, buy the super magnum express, chop it, restock it, put one of the old style 870 mag tube extensions on it (the ones with the bayonett lug) throw a heat shield on it (for kicks) and send it in for nickel plating after having REMINGTON 870 POLICE SUPER MARINE MAGNUM engraved on the side.
is there any problems I'm not thinking of? any modifications I should consider? will the 870 super magnum accept a standard 870's stock? will the old style police topfolding stocks compleatly dissasemble for plating?
Thoughts? Opinions? is there anything better for the 870 platform? remember its gotta be small, low maintenence, rugged, and excessive.
