What do you intend to use this gun for, range use, CCW, etc...

I've got a P220ST that I use for range use and a P220R w/ NS that I use as my daily carry. The P220ST is great for the range but really heavy. The P220R is a lot lighter and great for carrying. I got both because I didn't want to change platforms between my range gun and carry gun. Other added benefits are you don't have to buy twice the number of mags and you only have to buy one holster.

You don't have this option on your poll but my vote is for both a P220ST and a P220R w/ NS.

This will be a duty weapon, conceal weapon, and range gun as I cannot afford to buy 2 (as much as I'd love to!).
 
i would probably try to find a spur hammer example. they usually have great triggers and are very accurate, in my experience. i would rather have a classic spur hammer P220 than an ST, but thats just me. if you are going to be using a full stainless for concealed carry, keep in mind that they are quite heavy.
 
the spur hammered models are an earlier P220 with a folded steel slide, mostly with the heel magazine release, but many of them were released with "regular" magazine release buttons. i believe that SIG changed the P220 to the current hammer profile in the mid 1980's. if you do get a spur hammer p220, you will want to replace the springs even if they are in good condition, as SIG has uprated the springs on their handguns since the 1980's. the spur hammered guns are my favorite P220's, as the craftsmanship is fantastic.

I may be ignroant but, isn't stainless steel a lot more abusable and harder to break than a nickel gun?

Thanks! To be honest with you I don’t know which is stronger. I believe its Nickel over stainless though so I get the best of both worlds. I paid $600 for it. Bought it off a guy that had two and was in need of some quick cash. Don’t know how much truth there is to it but he told me he had never fired it. I put on the night sights and the Hogue grip. I wasn’t even in the market for a new gun but when I saw that shiny gold with the pink tint I had to have it.

IMHO, I think a blued P220 with a stamped steel slide and night sights would meet all of your needs for duty, carry and range work.

It is lighter in weight for carry and duty work and balances perfectly. I have a P229 and P226 with the stainless slides and they feel a little top heavy from the added weight of the slide.

That being said, www.sportingarms.com does have the P220ST w/ Nightsights on sale for $699 through 5/30. I've bought my last three guns from them and highly recommend them. They are great to deal with.

I have a 220 and a 220ST

Love 'em both. But for carry purposes the ST is just too darn heavy! Bottom line is that I rarely take the ST out of the safe and will carry the regular 220 anywhere, anytime. Good shooting;)
 
I guess my 220 doesn’t feel heavy because I compare it to a G21 with a preban mag. It does stick me right in my fat roll though when I carry at 4 o’clock. If I push it back any further it prints something awful. As a duty weapon I think it would be great. Not mine though. You might have a suspect at gunpoint and he would start laughing at your pink gun.

i want to know, what kind of metal is the slide and frame made of on a basic black 220 (non stainless slide)?
 
well i got a chance to compare the night sight equipped 220's to the regular bar dot sighted ones and to be quite honest the night sights were quite tinny and hard to see compared to the cheaper, standard bar sights...what do you guys think?
 
I believe the blued 220's have an aluminum alloy frame under a steel slide. And they seem to handle being dropped just fine. I accidentlally dropped mine just today, actually. (I'm clumsy.)

I also vote for the Blued 220 with night sites. I have the "siglite" night sights on mine and like them.
 
the standard 220 has an alloy frame and a stamped/folded steel slide. it's advantage, especially when one of your inteneted uses is carry, is it's lighter weight.

the stainless slide, at least the white ones, will take more "abuse" then nickled slides...but they also show scratches easier
