FYI. You all may know this, but it was news to me just today.

I bought some shotgun shells this morning while on a trip home from an out-of-town job. I got home and realized I grabbed the wrong boxes. No problem, I took the 3 boxes of 20ga shells back to one of our local Wal-Marts.

I got in line and once at the counter, the lady rudely pointed to a sign on the wall and told me all ammo sales are final and they will not take ammo returns. So, I asked her if I could just trade them for the right shells. I was polite, BTW. She then got very short with me, once again pointing to the sign and restated that ammo sales are final. I was very polite and told her that she was very correct. That will be the final sale of any kind that Wal-Mart will ever make to me. I've shopped there for a very long time and have spent a whole lot of money there.

1st, I thought it was a stupid policy, though I'm sure they have a reason for it. 2nd, I gave no reason to the women to be rude.

I am however, a man of my word. I'll not be going back to Wal-Mart. I'm not in a position where I have to pinch pennies. I'll pay more and go elsewhere. I will miss the convenience, but again, I am a man of my word.

Although I have no affinity for Walmart, you really can't judge a whole organization based on one employees actions.... of course, they did hire her... but even then, everyone has off days or whatever...

I have never gone anywhere were all ammo sales arent final.

This.

Think about it - would you want to buy ammo that someone had returned, not knowing what (if anything) they did to it? It's the same with medicine - you wouldn't buy a bottle of tylenol someone had returned to the store, would you?

Ammo sales are always final everywhere I've ever bought it. Think about it. Product tampering has been with us for twenty years or more. Think how easy it would be to tamper with ammunition and make it a HUGE liability to WalMart should they resell it.

If you refuse to buy ammo from anyone with a no-return policy, you may as well refuse to buy ammo ever again.

Any reasonably aware lawyer today would tell their client not to sell potentially hazardous goods from unknown sources. Someone returning ammo to a store is an unknown source. That means the store can't turn around and re-sell your returned products.

They can't resell them, they can't return them to the manufacturer (it wasn't a manufacturing defect), they can't throw them away (hazardous material, and imagine the story if a reporter found 410 shotshells in a dumpster), they can't give them to employees (same reason they can't resell them)... what are they supposed to do?

It isn't just walmart either.

I would actually be curious to know if, in your travels to other shops, you find anyone willing to take returns on ammo. Please let us know. Go in and ask if they will allow returns on ammunition should you inadvertently purchase the wrong kind.

Also, I'm curious if the realization that most, if not all, shops do not accept ammo returns will cause you continue to shop at WalMart for the convenience.

Anti Walmart threads woot. Well this post is doomed. There are hundreds of reasons not to like said place but, this isn't one. Who wants to buy returned ammo?
Returned ammo is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get. That's what Momma always told me ;)

No ammo returns is a wise policy. Always make sure to check the boxes when you buy ammo.

OK, OK, I'll revise things. I'll just quit buying from Wall World for their being rude. Yeah, yeah, I know I can't grade an entire org on one person, but this rubbed me th wrong way. I did point out in my post they probably had a reason for the policy. This may be the policy at most outlets and I admit I don't generally return ammo. I did check my local stores and they told me they would have taken the ammo back. Of course, they know me.

While that have no requirement to do so, they could also explain their policy.

I ask If I can check the ammo before I buy it, given that it is in one of those boxes that aren't glued shut. If they are sealed shut, then I make SURE that the writing on the box indicates EXACTLY what I am looking for.

Sucks to be you and all, no more convient cheap ammo just because you didn't pay attention to what you bought and never realized that NO retailers allow returns on ammo.

1 employee's "rude" actions would not turn me off a particular retailer, only if the behavior became common place would I not go back. Besides that's what management is for; as a retail manger I don't mind feedback on employees, both good and bad. I can't be everywhere at once.

And of course I've had the completely "innocent" customer, who didn't do a thing wrong, who was soooo "nice"... while he's telling me his story using the f-word in every sentence, calling the 60 year old lady at the door retarded, calling other employees b**ches, etc. Yeah, guy, you probably got "rude" service because no one wanted to be around you. Sure enough, a little investigating the guy came in the door cursing everyone and their mom. Not saying that's you, obviously that's on the extreme, but maybe you rubbed the person the wrong way?

Our Walmart has been strict about 'all ammo sales are final' for as long as I can remember, BUT so has every single gun shop from which I've bought ammo in the last few years. I am really happy about that, I sure don't want a potentially dangerous product that is easy to tamper with returned to the store so I can buy it.

And the clerks at my local Walmart are not rude at all, in fact they are friendly and quite helpful, so I'm sorry you got a bad one.

Cabelas has a sign at the counter that reads.....please check your purchase. Ammo cannot be returned. And the cashier verbally states that before it is paid for.

Walmart does not always have the sharpest employees. They are not customer service experts. So what. Spite ourselves by not going back? Walmart is my cheapest source right now. I can handle non-mensa personnel most of the time.

All ammo purchases everywhere I have ever been have been a No Return Policy. But that never gives an excuse to a worker to be rude to a customer. those are the kind of people you report to their manager.

gbran -

That is the policy of EVERY retailer of ammunition I have ever visited in the last 40 years.

Sorry -but you're wrong, you lose. Find a friend and see what you can do.

STUPID should hurt - and in this case it hurt your wallet. Better that than having some yahoo return reloads in a factory box and someone else getting REALLY hurt as a result.

Try being a better consumer next time

If you want sympathy - look in the dictionary between sh** and syphilis

People like that is exactly why I stopped shopping at Wal-Mart. I'll spend the extra $2 at Target. If only we could get them to start selling ammo...
