The votes for the Manchin-Toomey Universal Background Check are not there, but the Democrats and anti-gun groups are pushing hard to get them TODAY! The "Mom's Demand Action" group just released an add blitz showing kids with so-called "assault weapons" to push Senators to vote against your Constitutionally protected freedoms.

Democrats Max Baucus of Montana and Mary Landrieu of Louisiana are on the fence. If you live in one of these two states, call them immediately and tell them that you will not only vote against those who vote against your freedom, but that you will be actively campaigning for the other guy.

If you live in other states, still call your Senators. This is going to be really close, folks!

    Max Baucus (Montana):

    Phone: (202) 224-2651
    Fax: (202) 224-9412

    Mary Landrieu (Louisiana):

    Phone: (202) 224-5824
    Fax: (202) 224-9735

They only need two votes. This is turning into a nail biter. Keep up the pressure.

The voicemail mailbox for the Senator from Montana is full. I don't know if that is a good thing or not.

Anyone have the zip codes for MT or LA so we can use Bloomberg's toll free to reach them?

Got some great news here in Arkansas.
Democrat Senator Mark Pryor has released a statement via Facebook that due to the Manchin-Toomey Amendment being "too broad, unworkable and unreasonable", he will be voting against it.

I think all zip codes in Montana start with 59. Helena is 59601 or 59602.

Keep it up guys, home stretch.
Just contacted my Senators again today.

Well, that was just about as sure a thing with Pryor as you'll ever get. He knows which side his bread is buttered on, and was never on the fence with this vote. But thanks for the confirmation.

I think we have the momentum here. The fence sitters will break for NO, for the most part, I think. If they sense it isn't going to pass, then a YEA just to placate Reid would be a wasted vote if their constituents are pulling for NO. But hey, its politics, so who knows?

That's why I like Pryor, he's afraid to screw up and get voted off the island. He just votes for whatever he thinks will keep him in office regardless of his personal opinions, which means he has a pro gun voting record even when some of his candid statments have indicated otherwise.

As noted by another poster though, Pryor's vote should never have been in question, in Arkansas he has to vote against it. He's one of the blue Senators with the highest chances of being replaced in a red state according to the National Journal.

That's what they're supposed to do, since whatever keeps him in office is voting the way his constituents want. Thats how it's supposed to work. He's catching hell already from the left wingers in the state, but that's to be expected.

ABC news here just reported the senate rejected the background check bill.
    can anyone verify?

Yahoo is confirming. The battle is won, but the war never ends.

I think they rejected the amendment that contains the compromise bill, but the basic bill will continue on. However, in it's original, Schumer, form, it is unpalatable to many Democrats as well as Republicans, and far more likely to die on the floor. If I misread this, please let me know - I'd love to celebrate the demise of the whole thing.

does it occur to you that left wing politics are less likely to inflict government control on guns and arms than right wing. If we ever need to overthrow the government it can be done more easily with no weapons at all . right trumps might anytime

Good work! The anti-gunners were really upset that Max Baucus voted for American liberty.

Notice how when Reid knew the bill would fail, he voted against it just to preserve his right to introduce it again in the same session. In other words, Democrats like to claim we need all these rules, and then they break them.

Fixed it for ya. If I felt this way about the way the world works, I'd feel less sane, Rob ;). Left and Right are two sides the same coin, but they are not after the same things at the moment in this one particular case. Welcome to the forum.
