What is Kentucky like for shooters?

Come on down

KY is by far the best place to be. Even better than TX and I've lived in both places. Only KY has the Knob Creek Machine Gun shoot. I recently changed jobs and even took a pay cut to stay here in this fine state. Have to move north from Georgetown to Florence but I get to stay here.

We have great places to shoot, I'm currently a member of Blue Grass Sportsman League and it is the greatest range I've ever shot at. Great down home folks and great horses.

Could not be any better. I live in the eastern part of the state. 45 minutes away from both Winchester and Morehead. An hour and a half away from Lexington and about two and a half hours from Louisville. People are nice and the price of living is very low. I would recommend it for most people so long as they don't try to change us, just become like us. :)!

another transplanted Yankee here. Moved from SW Michigan to Cincinnati 4 months ago, but I an sitting at my desk in Kentucky as we speak. Its nice down here, and the rents are low while the wages and standard of living is high!

I AM looking for a nice range down here though. Outdoors with reasonable fees and rules would be nice. where can I shoot around here?

Ohio? Kentucky?

It's awful here. Stay away. :D

We actually have several key lawmakers' in the state general assembly whose goals while in office tend to be gun-oriented. Right now there's a bill in committee that will allow firearms in vehicles on state university campuses.

Beware. I was in western kentucky one spring picking up a motorcycle when it snowed a whooping 3/4 inch. Shut the whole town down, multiple cars in the ditch, absolute panic. We were told we were crazy to be on the road in that weather ! I'm from Ohio where you can be driving in the snow in the morning and running the AC in the afternoon.

You might try this club which is located near Millford , east of Cincinnati. I have shot there many times but don't know how much it is to join. They have a 600yd range and a very active shooting program. Good people too.

Did anyone get in on the great HAIL STORM 10-15 years ago where boweling green was BLASTED Like a war zone !!!
:what:

boweling green....?

blasted.....?

Eeeeww...

That just sounds gross.

:barf:

I am not from Kentucky, but I got here as soon as I could.

I lived in Arizona for 30 years before I discovered Kentucky in 1995 when I did some consulting work for the State medicaid project. My wife and I fell in love with the people, the scenery and the weather.

Several years ago we purchased a 60 acre farm in the north central area of the State and built our retirement home. I have set up a shooting range that will get much enhancement in the years ahead.

We will never leave!!

It's ridiculous! That's one of the only things I dislike about living here; people go into a full-on panic as soon as the skies become overcast. The situation isn't helped by having "weather warrior" meteorologists on every station that interrupt programming and put huge warnings across the bottom of the screen for every little storm.

Ahh....someday, maybe someday.
Plan on visiting on the bike if I can talk mama into a ride:D
Beautiful state from what I can see - you are lucky to live there.
Save room for just one more yankee w/o attitude.

I've lived in Louisville for most of my life, and here's what I can share about our gun 'scene':

Knob Creek range is 30 min. south of Louisville, close to Ft. Knox (which has the French Range)
We have two nice indoor ranges, one is in the city and the other is in Oldham County (100 yd. indoor, openrangesports.com)
Shooter's supply (http://shooterssupply.org/) is a full-line gun dealer and stocks some interesting items.

Others may care to add :)

Louisville is a nice city, but can be a bit liberal at times. Housing is more expensive here, along with everything else. Any other questions, feel free to PM me.

Ah yes. I have friends in KY. When I sold my house in N. VA for a princely sum during the housing bubble, my friend tried convincing me for a move to Louisville.

But NOOO. I had to stick around here and waste all that money trying to make a living. :barf:

Can be had for less than 200K . Couple more in area with some land 50 to 85 000 . Friend has a 200+ farm old home . working cattle I beliver he wasnt 500.000 about price of a apt in commie Ca.
Deer turkey fishing all here Knob creek less than hour also.
Property taxs low also

I am life long kentuckian. I live in maysville which is about an hour east of cinci on the AA highway. Housing is very cheap small towns and rural areas, less so lex or louisville. One of the most gun friendly places in the world. In the part of the state I am in there is not much in the way of ranges though. You may also find less friendlyness in some of the more remote parts of eastern ky, there are some fairly paranoid folks way back in the woods. :)

I lived there for 10 years or so. It grows on you. I lived in the SE part of the state. At first I hated it as I moved from a very large city to an area at that time that barely had a fast food restaurant. It has changed since.

Give Tennessee a look.
